How to explain to daughter how often to change towel

So my DD has become a woman 😇

She had a stash of pads so we have just gone through putting one in her knickers and how to dispose of it when it is finished. She asked how often they need changing 🤔 A quick google says about 3 - 4 hours. She asked if she changes it when there is blood on it - I said not to just change it when there is only a bit as the purpose of the pad is to soak it up.

Any ideas on how to explain at what point enough blood becomes too much 🤷‍♀️ 🙄

I used timings of breaks at school as a marker - fresh towel first thing (7am), then at break (11) end of lunch (1:30) and then when you get home (4oclock)

As and when she gets heavier, she will find how often she needs to change.

In the early days, I would give her a special pencil case/purse with a clean pair of knickers and 3-4 pads in. Make sure she replenishes every day.

I can't help think the 3-4 hours is to sell more. Just change it when it either looks full or feels icky.

Tell her to use her judgement.

Even now I still change my pad/tampon at break times during work. Usually 3-4 hours apart depending on meetings because I know if I left it until the next break 6-8 hours it would be uncomfortable, at risk of flooding and a bit icky.

Advise her to change at morning break unless it's looking pretty clean and dry, at which case change at lunch. It's all down to her flow and she'll quickly learn what's uncomfortable or too much. Periods change over the course of the week too, so saying change every 3 hours or whatever on a light day is going to be a waste whereas 3 hours on a heavy day is probably about right.
