Dd with ASD won’t wear a bra

She is 13, and refuses to wear a bra, bra top or even a vest.

She wears white shirts to school so while not completely see through, she definitely needs to wear one!

I’ve tried encouraging her to wear a vest at least but she doesn’t like the way it feels. Has anyone got any experience of this and how they overcame it?

My DD with ASD is 16 and has never worn one; she always wears a vest though.
I had to shop around to find the right sort that don't squeeze or rub.

I’m of the camp that don’t make her and why should she? But I honestly don’t know that’s the ‘right’ response, sorry.
I just think fuck it, if more and more females didn’t wear bras then it would make it easier for everyone

Weird can I ask which one you found that she can tolerate?

Would she wear a white t-shirt? No itchy lace stuff.

HeddaGarbled · 06/11/2018 23:45

Loose t-shirt? It’s the tightness that’s the problem.

I have had greatest success with sports bras, tbh. They're just comfier for DD. My sister wouldn't wear them either, for long after she really needed to, and has had all sorts of back problems.
John Lewis have inexpensive sports bras for teens- I think they're £14 for two.

I think they're from Primark. They have to be loose floppy ones, not tight underwear type ones. And not with narrow bra-type straps.
I did try lots before we found the right kind.

And 100% cotton

Have you tried any Sloggi ones? They are nice and soft (I can’t tolerate most bras but I like Sloggi).

What about a bandue bra? No straps to worry about. Peacocks and primark sell them

You can remove the straps

Rachelover40 · 07/11/2018 00:14

Sloggi ones are good and there are others, similar, which are extremely comfortable, you wouldn't even know you're wearing one.

Ok thanks I’ll take her shopping at the weekend if I can get her out of the house.
