is this okay/normal?She started at 13 and is 15.5 now.

Is your dd regular?

My dd is normal weight and very healthy but her periods are scant and irregular.I have pcos and am worried she may be deveolping it.

I don't, but I had very irregular periods myself as a teenager until I went on the pill at 18. It drove my mother mad, because I regularly had accidents as they weren't predicable (she made me keep a diary, because she thought I was just being forgetful, and I seem to recall they varied from about 20 to about 40 days and in length from about 3-7 days). I don't think it is unusual for periods to take a while to settle down, but if you are worried you should probably ask your GP about it.

thanks nook, you're right I should ask the gp

I have 3 daughters. DD1 (20) started at 14 and took about 6 months to settle down.DD2 also started at 14 and was about 16 when they finally settled down. DD3 (15) started at 13 and although she has regular periods most of the time, she does still have the occasional late one.

thank you mumeee,so there may be hope yet?

ggirl

Although the causes of PCOS are not fully understood there may be a hereditary aspect to this condition.

If your DD does have a blood test done the GP must COMPARE the level of LH (luteinising hormone) against that of FSH (follicle stimulation hormone). A LH/FSH imbalance is a common feature of PCOS. I say that the levels must be compared because these levels can be deemed as "normal" if only looked at separately.

I've always had irregular periods and in my case PCOS was the underlying cause.

thanks atilla, she said to me this am that loads of her friends are still irregular so I'll see how she goes for a while then take her to gp if need be.
