She went for an interview in an after school education centre last week & was offered the job today. Starts as her GCSE's finish on £5ph.

Now she can save for the exotic sixth form China trip next year!

Well done to your DD

Excellent...bet you're really proud!

DS1 (17) started his first job last Tuesday working in the kitchen at our local Beefeater until he starts his college course in September. Seems so strange him going off to "work" rather than school.

Be warned, your DD may be worn out at first, DS1 has been v tired. Welcome to the world of work and all that eh?!

Lilymaid · 12/06/2007 21:01

Well done. DS sent off his CV today for waiting/kitchen work/whatever at local venue. He has 3 years paper boy experience so can get a reference from the shop.

Milliways · 12/06/2007 21:07

DD put "References available" but they didn't ask for them (Had Primary School work experience, Duke of Edinburgh service placements, Junior Church helper, baby sitting etc). She did show them School letters of congratulation & predicted grades though, and they ARE doing a police check.

As she is working with young children it closes at 7pm so no late nights - but will still be a shock straight from school!

Means she won't need a Pocket money rise

Well done to your dd! - out of interest what is the legal age these days for baby sitting? Wondering if I can coerce dd into earning some money of her own - she's 14 in November.

NoodleStroodle · 14/06/2007 15:03

Well done your DD.

Will she really save? Might be worth keeping a weather eye on this and help her keep it in the bank...

Milliways · 14/06/2007 16:51

Wisteria -there is NO legal age for babysitting! However, they are not legally liable for anything until they are 16 so if anything happened the parents of the children being minded would be legally responsible. 14 tends to be the acceptable age for babysitting older children (no nappies, able to say what is wrong etc!)

DD started sitting at 14, but ONLY if I was in & could rescue her in case of emergency

NoodleStroodle - her wages will go into a Bank and she hopes to just live on her pocket money as she has done until now. I will keep an eye though!

Thank you Milliways, I was wondering about that, as I know there is no legal requirement for leaving kids on their own - except if something bad happens, when you can then be prosecuted for negligence...... daft system in GB isn't it?
One of my friends asked my DD to babysit for her 11 & 12 yr old but she didn't seem confident enough so we left it.
