What are teenagers supposed to do for fun on the weekend

So was wondering what are teenagers supposed to do for fun on the weekend outside just sitting in the park. My Daugher is at the awkward stage where she's too old for discos (which 10 year olds somehow get into) but too young for real clubs. So what do teens do. It feels like all she can really do is go to the cinema but that is quite hard due to our local cinema putting on the most awkward times ever.

-have a hot chocolate in a cafe with friends
-go to the next town/city over and explore ( a bus ride over or train)
-have a look round the shops
-go rollerskating

mother2mother · 30/09/2018 16:48

@sleepismysuperpower1 that's all impossible since we don't have a skating rink within a 25 mile radius and the shops, cafe's, etc are closed by 6pm (dead by 3:30 though with nothing left)

Do you mean on an evening?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 30/09/2018 16:51

what's in your town? is there maybe a youth group she could join at the weekends? they would do fun activities and she could go with her friends.

mother2mother · 30/09/2018 16:53

@sleepismysuperpower1 there is but the age group is 10 and up so she'd be mixing with 10 year olds. everyone outside her and her large friend group is either drinking in a field or just stays inside glued to a Xbox 24/7 but she says she can't stand playing Xbox 24/7

My DC does air cadets. His weekends is filled with activities - camps, swimming, shooting, outdoor activities. Very low priced and I know where he is (most of the time!)

Bunnybigears · 30/09/2018 16:58

Can she have friends round to her house or go to friends houses?

AlexanderHamilton · 30/09/2018 17:01

My 14 & 16 year olds go to the cinema, local coffee shops, library/arts centre etc.

But they are both in by 7pm. 16 year Dd will be our later on special occasions such as birthday meal at pizza express.

autumnboys · 30/09/2018 17:02

Mine do a sport and then have music lessons. Ridiculous levels of homework, some weekends. Church on Sunday. The odd sleepover. The oldest has just gone from Scouts to Explorers and spent the weekend helping at a Cub camp. Cinema, sometimes, with Clubcard vouchers. They hang out with friends too.

Finfintytint · 30/09/2018 17:03

Does she enjoy sports? Lots of activities in my (rural) area at the weekend to keep them busy.

prettygreywalls · 30/09/2018 17:05

Active hobbies ie riding , dancing , ice skating , cycling , swimming, gym , etc get a bit more involved than just a lesson , help with organising etc

Active clubs ie sea cadets , air cadets , girl guides , scouts , rangers

Voluntary organisations , ie Red Cross, St. John's , local church groups , homeless charities , helping in a charity , helping out in a kennels , Pdsa , dogs trust , community farm etc , woodland trust , national trust

What are her interests ? Can she develop them to make them more time consuming and interesting ?

mother2mother · 30/09/2018 17:07

@prettygreywalls she loves EDM. Not the drugs but the lights, the creation of the music, the energy of a crowd the way the music makes her feel. She'd be the person to go to a edm Show 100% sober and have a better time than anyone there

OP posts:
prettygreywalls · 30/09/2018 17:08

Sorry what's EDM?

mother2mother · 30/09/2018 17:09

@prettygreywalls electronic dance music so like house music, trance, techno. Have you ever heard of Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix, avicii or tiesto

And what age is she ?

YeOldeTrout · 30/09/2018 17:10

How old is your DD?

My 14yo plays screen games, takes me on long walks.
His brother played screen games, did some competitive sport.
Sis at 14yo would have been on phone all the time chatting to friends & watching movies/videos.

prettygreywalls · 30/09/2018 17:11

Oh ok , not something I know much about , can she get more involved with that ?

mother2mother · 30/09/2018 17:11

@prettygreywalls 15 so clubs aren't a option for her

I see quite a few groups of teenagers at our local gym. They are so into their fitness and have a great laugh together. Makes me think why I wasn't doing that when I was younger!

funmummy48 · 30/09/2018 17:15

Have friends over for pizza & a film, go to the cinema, go outfit coffee with friends, go to the cinema with friends, go for a mooch round the shops with friends, play boardgames with family\ friends, go out for a meal with friends \family, go to the park with friends, chill at home, enjoy time with parents.

YeOldeTrout · 30/09/2018 17:17

too much pirate video sites...
Instagram.

Cherryminx · 30/09/2018 18:51

Where I live there are some clubs which do sessions for U18. Alcohol free obviously. Not sure what they are like or how good drugs policing is.

Sometimes teens round us have house parties with varying degrees of house trashing/ inebriation.

mother2mother · 30/09/2018 18:57

@Cherryminx we have them but people always sneak in underage. Also they don't play good music 95% of the stuff is boybands they treat artists like Taylor swift, Ed Sheeran etc as "too mature"

my DD (14) and a friends went to another friend's saturday and they played a lot of Uno she said - who knows what else they did.

Today - just chilled and then we played family badminton 5-6 (with DD10). She became persuaded to do this because we played on the beach on holiday in summer and she realised she could play it. School had completely put her off!

Oblomov18 · 30/09/2018 19:08

I'm not quite sure what you mean? Specifically in the evenings?
After football practice and matches, homework and x box, Meeting friends to play football, or go to cinema, Ds1 has enough, kind of, going on. Not that much extra time, I mean. He very rarely goes out in the evening.
