DD16 face is going from clear to desperately bad acne in front of my eyes

I’m so frustrated! DD16 has had very few spots then suddenly 3 months ago acne started appearing and it seems there’s literally more every time I look at her. She’s desperately upset about it and is spending hours looking into her mirror etc. She hates wearing make up but now feels she has to and even then it’s very visible.
I took her to the GP and she recommended going on the pill so DD took Dianette for a month but it made it even worse so she has just changed to Loestrin. She also uses salicylic (?) acid based cream recommended by a beautician where I took her for a cleansing facial in desperation when she was really down.
It’s really affecting her mood, she’s miserable about the spots and I don’t blame her. The change has been dramatic and fast. She won’t even leave her room to eat with us sometimes :-(
She previously took Lymecyclene and it didn’t work (that was for a much milder outbreak an couple of years ago)
Does anyone have anything positive for me to say to her or do for her? I feel so sorry for her!

Antibiotics did nothing for my son, but a dermatologist prescribing roaccutane did the trick. We tried everything else, it was the only think that actually worked.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’m quite stunned at the PP who said multi vitamins caused a flare up because DD started taking them not long before the acne started!! I’m just checking with her now to see if the dates correspond. That would be really weird...

This worked for my daughter who developed acne last year. She was prescribed Duac from the GP, which she only needed to use daily for about a week to notice a difference, from then on she cleansed with Micellar water, moisturised with Simple moisturiser and would exfoliate once a week. She also changed her pillow case every two days. Simple, cheap and very effective.

djesand · 11/09/2018 22:06

Forgot to say, she also started taking a probiotic drink every day.

Washing her face with Hibiscrub really helped DD2’s acne.

OliviaStabler · 15/09/2018 08:07

I had terrible acne and tried Dianette but I had a bad reaction to it.

My GP then gave me antibiotics and skin cream for 6 months and it completely cleared up. I'd ask the GP about different courses of treatment.

Go back to your G

Dermatologist should prescribe Retin-A before considering roaccutane. Blue light also works for many (kills bacteria underneath the skin). Good luck.

Hey,

Don’t know if this would help but I found weirdly savlon over night and e45 cream in the morning worked miracles.

This phase will pass though Flowers

Sebopure is really good. I had to come off Differin cream when pregnant, and had read good things about Sebopure. My DD is nearly 8 weeks old and I'm going to stick with the Sebopure as it works better than the Differin! I can also recommend Nip and Fab gentle exfoliating pads. I think they do a teen skin range too.

DS get really bad acne and has huge spots.

He was prescribed antibiotics by the GP which cleared his face up really well - but he now refuses to take them due to all the issues around long term use etc.

His face looks so painful!

sandgrown · 15/09/2018 09:11

After reading this thread went to the Nip and Fab website and all the teen skin products are half price and free delivery over £10 . Going to try it for my son and start changing the pillowcase every day . Thanks for the tips

I’ve suffered with Rosacea and acne for ages and I’ve soent a fortune and tried everything the Drs have offered. The ^only* thing that has ever helped is washing my face daily in this soap. Please get her to try it. For me it’s been like sone kind of miracle.

Enjoli · 16/09/2018 22:03

I'm surprised the GP didn't prescribe anything topical!

For example,

DuAc - clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide
EpiDuo - adapalene + benzoyl peroxide
Differin - adapalene
Finacea - azaleic acid

If I were you I would start watching proper acne info videos on YouTube - I suggest Dr Dray or Dr Sam Bunting.

Then go see a dermatologist if you can afford one. If not, go back to the GP and ask for something topical.

She'll need a very simple cleansing, SPF and moisturising routine to go with any actives she is prescribed.

Poor thing. I feel for her as I've been there.

Smiler88 · 16/09/2018 22:16

Ask your GP or pay for a referal (if you have the means) to see a dermotologist. As someone who has had acne, getting expert help at the right time can be the difference between having long term scarring or smooth skin.

breadhead · 23/09/2018 22:37

Try spironolactone - it worked wonders for me after 20 years of bad hormonal acne

snozzlemaid · 26/09/2018 21:15

My dd had antibiotics for a few months and now uses Duac every day which keeps her acne under control.
I would go back to GP.

gonnaenodaethat1 · 27/09/2018 11:12

I took Tetralysal 300 for my skin and it cleared up within 3 months, and it's been fine ever since! Ask the dr to prescribe that instead of the pill

Miladymilord · 28/09/2018 16:47

1 month isn't long enough. Dd2 is in her 5th month of Yasmin and in the last few weeks her skin has improved dramatically. All the spots on her back and chest have completely gone and her forehead is clear. Just a couple left on her chin. For the first three months it didn't seem to make any difference at all, in fact they looked worse.

dd1 took roaccutane but I'd rather dd2 stayed on the pill.
