My DH is 16 and large, with self-confident issue. She has enough clothes for a week, won't buy more as she keeps changing shape.
She starts college this week, her room is a tip, the clothes are all over the bottom of the wardrobe.

I want her to look her best not turn up looking unkempt, she is lazy and doesn't care, I feel I should help because of the mental health side of things, she will feel happier if she looks better at college but I know I need to let her grown up ! what should I do??

Offer to help her put an outfit schedule together to make her first week less stressful.
Have a pen and paper ready while she sorts through the floordrobe!!
And appear interested not nagging!!

Great suggestions from April. Could you tidy her room a bit for her to and maybe put some flowers in there for her? If she’s carrying some extra weight and has confidence issues, little things thatxshow you care might mean a lot to her.

Could you have a bit of a girlie session too and do your nails and watch sone crap telly or a film?

Thank you JiltedJohnsJulie ,
I will do that, I always feel conflicted tiding her room, I know I should be able to shut the door and leave the mess, but sometimes I feel its got to a state, where the task is just too big for her.

I think a helping hand every now and then is fine, especially if she’s struggling a bit with things in general Smile

I know the mantra on MN seems to be that they should be independent and do everything for themselves but we all need a bit of help and support especially when facing a big move like starting college. If she is feeling overwhelmed I would offer to help her to get her room tidy and help with organising her wardrobe and planning some clothes for college. I have done a big spring clean with my DC for going back to school, then it is up to them to keep on top of it.

I blitz dd's room about 4 times a year, usually without her. She does a decent job of cleaning it in between but after a while it all gets too much and out of hand and she doesn't know where to start. They're still learning.

She loves it when she comes in to a lovely clean room she wasn't expecting.
