How much keep?

Hi, just a bit of advice please.

My daughter who has just turned 18 has finished A Levels and is taking a year out.
She has got a job at a local Marks and Spencer's and as we have never charged her keep before I was wondering, how much do you think is reasonable, as a percentage of her wage, for her keep all in?
Part of me doesn't want to take anything from her but I don't think I would be doing her any favours in the long run if I did this, more than anything its to give her a grounding in the real world.
What do you charge your teens for their keep?
Many thanks

My Mum took around 50% and saved it towards our first house deposit. But I would imagine a minimum of 25% and up to 50% would be reasonable, depending on your intentions with the money, and whether you need it.

Discuss it with your daughter as well to ensure she is fully signed up. At 18, I was terrible with money and ended up getting into mountains of debt which I hid from my Mum, it would have been a great opportunity to talk about budgeting, saving and financial commitments at the point I had my first job, I think it would have made a difference.

My DD has just had a year out before going to university. She has been working in the supermarket she has been in throughout sixth form. She has worked her old hours (Saturday and one evening) and has picked up all the overtime she could. This is usually 30+ hours a week. This is what we have done:
She pays £70 towards bills and buys most of her own food.

It is just me and her living here and I need the money. I think I would've taken a contribution from her even if I didn't need the money though as she's an adult and I believe that adults should pay their way in the world. You'll get loads of replies though from people saying they'd never take money from their 'child' as it's mean!

Have you had a chat with her about the kind of amounts she will need to save?
