Late puberty?

DS is 15 and a half. Mentally and emotionally he's great for his age. Physically has hasn't touched puberty. I'm kind of a bit worried for him. Is this normal? DH said he started voice break etc around age 14. I'm prob worrying needlessly!

@Plump.....never been aware of any smell issue at all. But I see not all Kallmans might necessarily present that. Everyone's on board now with just going and getting checked - DH, DS.....so that's fine. Poor kid....not easy for either early or late developers!

@shatners - yes ans actually I think he already is worried. He talks about it and I can tell he's embarrassed in front of some peers. So by doing nothing, the situation isn't great anyway. We and he got all excited about a month ago because his voice went all squeaky ...turned out to be a sore throat ! 😁

And of course the simple act of booking the appointment with the doctor means his voice is bound to drop an octave overnight Smile Or is it just my kids who have a knack of making me look like I have Munchausen's by proxy? 🤔

@Shatners.......😁 Yup. Absolutely right! Bet the night before the hair will sprout like a little play dough model and I'll look a right plonker!

you're right Dr Google can cause false alarm. But I'm getting it checked.

Of course, I wasn't disputing you should get him seen. I was directly responding to the dramatic..

GP ASAP. Absolutely no signs of puberty at all by 14th Birthday needs medical intervention.

Also

Seeing a GP for initial advice would be medical intervention.

Medical intervention is more than talking to a GP.

titchy · 17/08/2018 19:52

Actually I meant medical intervention to be seeing a GP, with a view to an endocrinology referral. Apologies if that wasn't clear. Good luck OP.

Thanks for the Kallmans tip x

Following as my DS is the same (14 and a half) his friend yesterday looks about 16, such a difference. DH says he was the same, my brother also...interested to see what is said at GP though. One think i have noticed is mine is getting some BO...(not keen for antiperspirant though) and a few spots.

The problem is with giving average ages for things. I had one DD start periods at 14 and one at 16. Some of her friends started at 17/18, some at 9. An average is just that. Trust your instinct. Personally I’d give it until 16.

coffecupempty · 29/08/2019 13:23

I'm glad all on board to get it checked and I personally wouldn't wait.

I was pleading with my DS2 to go to gp for 2 years (due to embarrassment he kept putting it off and RL friends and family were telling me not to worry it would happen when it was supposed to) It wasn't until he started 6th form that he realised something wasn't right and did it himself. He was

diagnosed with Kallmanns syndrome at the age 17 almost 18. He has to have testosterone injections every 3 months for the rest of his life. With blood test either side to check levels are stable. He also has no sense of smell.
Normal testosterone levels are between 15-30 his was 2.4 but with one injection kicked started everything and we saw a difference in two weeks! He has a girlfriend and they are attending a fertility clinic to get some answers as he is almost infertile (although not in all cases) to what the options are for the future.

My youngest DS is 14 next week and has no sign of anything starting. He does have his sense of smell though. GP has referred him had blood tests but apparently gp can't interpret them! I can't get the hospital appt til the end of sept, I'm praying he isn't the same!

Hope you get some answers soon.
