Summer holidays

What to do with s 13 year old girl in the summer holidays? I’ve never had a problem before with summer holidays but she’s not keen on the activities she’s done before with me. There is a local activity week near me, sailing, wake boarding, wind surfing but she doesn’t want to go. Any suggestions?

What does she want to do?
Where abouts are you?
Budget?
Is this for the whole six weeks or a shorter time?

We’re on holiday for one week, so 5 weeks, she loves drama and normally goes to drama school for one week but there not doing it this year due to a family bereavement with one of the teachers. We are in the south east, budget about £200 a week

Well there are always other drama summer schools - lots around Brighton if that's any good?
How about Go-Ape?
Geo caching.
Could you learn a new skill together? Either for a week or one day a week?
Give her a budget and ask her to plan a day trip or short break.
Check out online vouchers for events and attractions near you.
Cinema discounts can make it affordable and you'll often find they're running special films rather than just the latest releases.

What a good idea for her to plan a day trip or short break, I love that idea, also learning a new skill together. Thank you x

My 13 year old brain stormed some ideas with me, worked out the days I was working and has done us a table for the entire holidays.
She has even scheduled an afternoon of her and her brother packing their cases for our summer holidays whilst I am at work.
It’s good to have some down days and decide depending on the weather. I am exhausted looking at it.

At 13 they are often too old for organized activities such as youth type clubs and sports type clubs but nevertheless the days will be long for them if you are working.
I am fortunate that I work very close to home so I can come home for lunch to break the day up a little.

Does she like art? If you are near Guildford the Watts Gallery do a great week long course from next Monday.

Our son is 14 and I must say geocashing has been such a positive thing for him. He looks for them everywhere and logs them and has even put some of his own out there. Good clean fun!! I would recommend it!

It’s unfortunate but where I live once kids hit Secondary they don’t want to take part in any organised clubs anymore.

My 13yo dd will be at home when I'm at work, a combination of sleeping and watching Netflix more than likely. I work shifts so some days I'll be back early and some days I won't start til the afternoon so will be around and we'll do things on my day off. There is nothing for older kids around here, but then if you have £200 a week budget I'm sure there's lots of things you could do if you aren't working?

greeneggblueegg · 20/07/2018 07:30

Same position here. I fear an entire summer of my 13 yo DS superglued to his XBox if I don't get something organised fast Hmm

Thankfully we will be away for 10 days but still leaves a looooong stretch. He's also not interested in sports camps.

What does she want to do? my DC are generally quite happy "hanging out" with friends or wandering round town. Maybe give her a holiday spending allowance (nowhere near £200 a week ...) and see what she thinks?
