Hair on legs sensitive dd age 12

Dd has just got dressed and is wearing tights under her shorts as she refuses to go out bare legged. She says she is embarrassed about her leg hair. She has been mentioning it for a while now and I need to tackle it. I am not sure how to tackle this issue sensitivily and what the appropriate hair removal/ pro body hair approach to take is.

She has darker hair than me - I am ginger and freckly I have translucent body hair shave about 6 times a year if that and only since my late twenties. I have no idea what it is like having obviously hairy legs, so it is all very well for me to say it is fine and don't worry and body hair is normal and natural but dd is very self conscious.

She is already socially awkward so I feel that I need to make things easier for her. What body hair removal is appropriate for her age - 12 - Shaving? Veet cream? Help?!

Does depend how thick the hair is. Lumea is pretty useless for both me and a friend who has very dark thick hair. Tria is better but still not nearly as good as salon lasers. If I had a daughter with similar hairiness I would be setting money aside in case she wanted salon lasering when she was older. (Money my mum gave me for various reasons effectively paid for mine, and the ongoing difference to my confidence meant I've always felt it was worthwhile. Plus I've read that responsible salons don't like to do it for younger teens so they know they are making the decision themselves.) Keeping body hair is apparently a trend among some young women these days so I would try and not assume she felt the same way as many women our age did. metro.co.uk/2017/05/20/more-and-more-women-are-choosing-not-to-shave-their-underarms-and-legs-6649184/

I totally agree with the epilators. I knew about it only when i was 30 and its 15 yrs down and i feel superb especially with my underarms. I would never let my DD shave, the mistake i did when i was in teenage. DD is awkward too about her hairy legs and underarms. I helped her epilate from when she was 12. First time was difficult with tears in her eyes. She is slowly getting over the pain. And also the sooner you start epilating , you will notice hair growth getting less over the years, which will help her a lot. We epilate only once a month, just to keep it nice and smooth. Since it is similar to waxing but without the money spent on strips everytime and oh, you dont have go wait to hair to grow to a certain length too. A good braun epilator will go a long way. My braun from 14 yrs back is still going strong. I bought a cordless one this time to make things easier.
Try it she is going to love it.

@pennycarbonara interesting. My hairs were dark and thick and coarse. Its worked really well, leaving a few finer ones that have become lighter in the sun and will have to wait till my tan fades to zap them.
