Not me, but dh. After 3 days of nagging ds (16) to tidy his room as his Grannie is coming (we usually leave well enough alone when it comes to teenage mess), dh cracked this morning and entered ds room with a bin bag.

He found:

  • the remains of a munchy box
  • 5 empty shoeboxes
  • no dishes (after a call was put out for dishes yesterday) but 7 forks
  • selected empty pot noodle cups
  • 7 empty deodorant cans, and ELEVEN partly used ones! EIGHTEEN pairs of shoes. 18* This includes football boots, 2 kinds of running spikes, trainers just for athletics etc but still, 18! I have about 4.

What would you find if you entered your teenagers room?

(oh and ds will be ok about it, especially as his room got hoovered without him having to do it!).

Avado, thats a really sad story :( poor lad.

Ds is a bit put out that dh decided to tidy - apparently he was "saving" the empty shoe boxes for some vague purpose he cant quite describe.

Don't think he's sniffing the deodorant either, he just says "yes" if we're in Tesco and I ask him if he needs any.

Went in just now and the windows are still open, diluting that Eau de TeenBoy atmosphere!

Honestly, I stopped reading at 18 shoes, I was so impressed it was an even number!

Yvest · 07/06/2018 20:39

dirty socks. In the bed, under the bed, on the floor, in the cupboards. why??

billybagpuss · 07/06/2018 20:39

And now I've reread 'pairs of shoes' still an even number :)

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2018 20:43

DS1 has just come home from Uni for the summer and has literally tipped the contents of his room at halls into our front room.

There are between 40 and 50 bags for life. Empty ones. Confused

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/06/2018 20:53

Avado that is so sad, I wouldn’t have been able to stay friends with her either. Poor, poor lad.

Hugoagogo that’s sad too. Sounds like you’ve got a lovely relationship with your DC though. My one intention in motherhood has been to be nothing like my “D”M.

yikesanotherbooboo · 07/06/2018 21:02

A carpet of single socks ( mixed used and clean match!).
4 glasses, 2 mugs , a plate with crumbs,a water bottle and a flask of coffee if uncertain vintage.
Masses of opened and unidentifiable packaging.
Lots of chewed pen tops.
Hundreds of pieces of paper.
Dozens of books.
Unmade bed
Various peculiar odds and ends eg little model animals , half painted orcs , novelty sharpeners
Dusty bottle of unopened after shave
School bag
Etc etc

chachaboom · 07/06/2018 21:50

My mother had a rule - no food upstairs. I still adhere to it in my own home and I'm feeling justified after seeing all these posts about manky crockery in rooms.Smile

pasanda · 08/06/2018 12:09

Last night I found a cigarette in dd's room (14yrs) Sad
She's trying to convince me it's not hers. Ha fucking ha!

Honestly though, my ds never ever tidies his room. Never puts his clothes away and never puts the clean duvet covers etc back on. Would rather sleep without them than bother.

My question is when do they start doing the right thing? Surely not all these teenage boys end up as crap husbands?? Do they? If so, I feel sorry for his future wife coz no amount of nagging from me makes him change!

Mrsramsayscat · 08/06/2018 12:55

Teen 1 mess everywhere half the time, including much of the above. Tidy half the time, for a few weeks after a major clear up ((but loads of makeup)

Teen 2 books, guitars, a made bed

Teen 3 Armageddon

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/06/2018 14:31

I'm not sure that it is a boy thing ; my DD is horrifically untidy and incapable( it seems ) of ever picking anything up. Her room , however, is fragrant .one DS is quite orderly and the other is cut from the same cloth as his sister. Boys rooms smell of BOY with an overtone of cheap spray on scent.

Mrsramsayscat · 08/06/2018 14:32

My Teen 2 is male so I agree.

Steeley113 · 08/06/2018 14:43

My room was horrendous when I was a teen. You couldn’t see the floor! It drove my mum crazy. I now have an incredibly tidy home and 3 dc, who I nag constantly to keep things tidy Grin I feel for my poor mum but I can promise you, us trampy teens can grow out of it!

pasanda · 08/06/2018 17:13

Thank goodness for that!! Grin

LoveBeingAMum555 · 08/06/2018 19:56

Ds1s room could be worse but he has a big chest of drawers that he uses to pile clean clothes on top of and by pile I really do mean that literally. Why doesn't he put them in his drawers?

I can't remember the last time either of my teens had their room cleaned property. It used to bother me but I keep the doors shut now and let them get on with it.

gingergenius · 08/06/2018 19:59

My 9.5 y/o had a mouldy orange that was under her bed and stinking out the house. They are all to their dad's tomorrow and I can't wait to fumigate. Can't enough BEGIN to think about what is in my boys' rooms!!!! Wish me luck!

BrownTurkey · 08/06/2018 20:04

JellySlice, the first three lines of yours are dd1s room, and all but the first line apply to dd2s room!

Madhairday · 08/06/2018 22:07

Hmmm.

A mixture of dirty and clean washing decorating every inch of carpet.

A Tupperware box with something hideously unidentifiable festering therein.

About six plates, forks and spoons (no knives Confused )

Various make up detritus - bronzer half spilled on the dresser and floor, nail polish likewise, eyeshadow palette mixed to a general sludge colour, open lip glosses dried out and cracked.

Curtains closed, aforesaid musty odour.

Culprit lay in bed with laptop and phone simultaneously. ('It's my homework Hmm )

Books. A lot of books, but not in the bookcase. Why would they be?

Paper everywhere, revision 'notes' and school books. She 'knows where everything is, stop fussing mum'.

Half a flute.

Chocolate wrappers.

Mattress from friend's 'sleep' over with dirty bedding still in situ.

That's just what I can see from the door...

angrymum911 · 10/06/2018 04:01

gingergenius · 10/06/2018 15:42

A decaying orange. Left there for at least 2 weeks. Smelled it after we came back from holiday but couldn't locate it. Finally found it yesterday. I nearly cried with relief.

BearSoFair · 10/06/2018 17:02

I just checked out DS1's room for the purpose of updating this thread and found it to be passably tidy!

Three pairs of shoes kicked off and left on the floor
Pile of clothes on his chair but none on the floor
Several guitar picks (floor) and lead for his guitar (hanging from the back of his chair)
Half a tube of Pringles, an empty Pepsi can and a tiger baguette wrapper (??? didn't even know he liked tiger bread!) on his desk but no plates or cutlery, trained him well with bringing those down!
Stack of books that have fallen over on the end of his bed.

He does have a very small room which I think plays a huge part in him keeping the floor mostly clear as he has to if he wants to be able to actually move in there!

Susiesue61 · 11/06/2018 18:23

Just tidied DD's room. Clothes everywhere, especially bras Hmm Yesterdays sports kit, books and revision everywhere.
Now have a full washing basket, first wash on, it'll be a mess again tomorrow
