I’d go ballastic. It’s the modern day version of smoking - your 14 year old is consuming the drug nicotine. Does your DH smoke? How would he / you feel if it was cigarettes?

changedmyuser · 27/05/2018 19:24

No neither of us smoke, found it in her bedroom. So she's been vaping at home which I am very unhappy about. How did she get one in the first place??

Does you teen drink coffee? Because caffeine is just as dangerous as nicotine. It's not smoking.

MrsJayy · 27/05/2018 19:31

Not all vape liquid has nicotine in it you can justget flavoured liquids not that I would be best pleased if it was my14yr old are you going to confront them?

changedmyuser · 27/05/2018 19:34

No she doesn't drink coffee. I don't know what juice she's using. She will be confronted but I'm not sure how. There's no point in getting angry she pays no attention at all. Telling her your disappointed does nothing. I feel that her allowance should be stopped for the foreseeable so she can't buy this crap.

I don’t think it’s anything like as bad as smoking- vapes aren’t full of tar and carbon monoxide. My DS is vaping, I don’t like it but I do tolerate it as I think he will do it anyway and just not tell me if I forbid it.

Anerak · 28/05/2018 22:07

It's just as bad as smoking, it's inhaling (unregulated) chemicals into the lungs. No doubt some spin doctor for vaping companies will be along to tell otherwise but think logically - it's not healthy and it's not safe as increasingly more scientific studies prove and will continue to prove as research develops over time.
OP, I would explain to your daughter the consequences of smoking it - stunted growth, chance of lung disorders and how others will perceive her if she does it and then explain that her allowance will be cut until you can trust that it won't go on that as you don't want to support her in this habit

Ginmakesitallok · 29/05/2018 18:50

Anerak - you are wrong. On so many levels.

Delphiniumum · 29/05/2018 18:53

Vapes do not always contain nicotine. You can buy some with none.

NorthernSpirit · 29/05/2018 19:05

Actually @Anerak is completely correct.

Vaping is proven to increase the risk of cancer and heart disease. The science is proven.

Racecardriver · 29/05/2018 19:11

Vaping is still very bad for you. Heat is in itself carcinogenic in that heat causes proteins to degenerate which alters DNA. This is how abnormal growths start. Carcinogenic chemicals not found in capes but found in cigarettes have the same effect. She is still putting her health at risk even if it is not as bad as smoking cigarettes. The nicotine, if she uses it, is also harmful. It has a negative effect on the cardiovascular system and is addictive. It also looks very trashy-this last point will probably be most convincing for a daft 14 year old. Good lunch OP, you have my sympathy.

Ginmakesitallok · 29/05/2018 19:13

The study quoted in the guardian says nothing about how regular vaping affects the human body.
