Please tell me that 14 year old boys go back to being loving and nice and get past the grumpy stroppy arrogant and gobby stage?

At 14 my ds was expelled from school, was in with the wrong crowd, our relationship had broken down and I didn't see him for a year.
Now he is 16, at college doing amazing, tells me every day he loves me, and his friends are lovely!!
Don't dispair.

That is so reassuring to hear, @Aprilmightbemynewname! My 13 year old ds is awful right now. :( He used to be such a sweet, compliant, well-behaved boy.

I’ve got one - it’s like he watched Harry Enfields ‘Kevin’ as a training video to learn how to be a teenager!

He is in there somewhere though - I find driving places with him, taking him for his favourite food & chatting when he should be in bed (will do anything to procrastinate!) are the little moments of sunshine I still get from him.

He can be SO frustrating, condescending, argumentative, eye-rolling, moody and a little know it all. Sayings such as ‘it’s not like the old days when you were young’ and ‘everybody else’s parents let them..’ are two favourite phrases at the moment. Love him though & holding out hope this will pass..

Never stop telling them you love them. One day that will mean a lot to them. Me and ds are extremely close now. He regrets and takes full responsibility for his behaviour back then. He has major ambition and drive for a 16 yo!! Very proud of him.
And he knows it. His past is never mentioned, just the future.
