Are your teens sleeping ok?

I have one DS 17 who says he wakes in the night and rarely gets a full night's sleep and another DS14 who in the last 6 months or so has struggled to go to sleep by himself due to anxiety issues. He's always been the one to come back down after being put to bed and has been through phases of needing company while he falls asleep, but didn't expect to be sitting in his bedroom floor this at this age. We seem to have tried everything.

Any thoughts on how to help either of them?

As long as they get up in morning & do something productive, most days (like got to school) I don't mind. I let DD sleep until 1pm the other day, but that was very unusual event (holidays!). My yr9 boy doesn't prefer to be by self, either. Can you do anything to raise your 14yo's resilience, even just a little?

No advice, but really struggling with teen dd who doesn't sleep until the early hours every night, despite doing all the right things...lots of other issues going on too, but in short, I feel your pain. BrewBrewBrewCake

I just didn't realise this was a thing that we'd have to add to the parental struggles.

Daily youngest has missed a term of school too. Going though referrals for that so perhaps its all linked.

Eldest has AS levels in a few weeks and doesn't seem too bothered about them either. Not sure of its apathy, lethargy or depression or a blend of them all.

I don't have experience of teens sleeping but I'm 27 and I wake in the night at least once usually. I have very very rarely slept through night.

Recurring threads on MN this time of yr, about yr13 kids not much concerned about their A-level exams.

Niffler yes I guess it's probably more rare to sleep uninterrupted, just unusual for the household. All about perspective I guess. If DS17 were a bit more enthusiastic about life I probably wouldn't worry so much.

Thanks Daily I'll look for them 😊
