What to do in London for 15-16 yr olds ?

I'll be in London (based in Kingston upon Thames) for just under a week later in April with my 15 year old and his two mates who are 16. The mates are Franco-Spanish and are learning English but I fear some exhibitions etc will not be accessible for them.

DS of course doesn't want me to organize anything at all. He just wants as much freedom to hang out by the river with his mates.

I found one thread here from 2012 and picked up some good ideas (not sure how to link back to it though). And this, also: www.theoriginaltour.com/london-uncovered/cool-things-to-do-in-london-for-teens/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgcSb5Pad2gIVwZIYCh0mVQ_EEAAYASAAEgIy0vD_BwE

Any other (inexpensive) ideas welcome!

Thank you

Let them have a wander around Camden Market or Brick Lane

Teddington Lock to watch the canal boats go through the lock. they can also walk, cycle along the river there.

They can also go to Richmond, lots of shops, cafes, places to eat. Also a very nice river walk/ chilling along the river bank.

Go to Soho and check out the fancy shops that teenagers love? Supreme, Palace.

Thanks already for these good ideas! How about Chessington World of Adventures ? Is that still cool with teens ?

No, Chessington not cool (and it’s expensive).

I’ve just moved to Kingston. Some thoughts from me:

The South Bank has loads of free activities going on and great street food
The Royal Festival Hall (on the South Bank) regulary has free bands on
Scrap Yard Golf on brick lane
Ping Pong near St.Pauls
Go for a Chinese in China Town
Go for a curry on Brick Lane
Camden
Portabello Road & Market
Hampton Court Open Air Pool

Thorpe Park is better for teens. Chessington is for younger children.

Camden Market
Brick Lane

Thorpe Park much better for teens, has the biggest rides. Chessington more for kids. You can get the 216 bus from Kingston bus station directly to Staines bus station, and then there’s a special bus that goes only to Thorpe Park from there.

Agree about Thorpe Park.

Easy to get the train from Kingston for Waterloo, thence to southbank, along the river past Tate Modern up to Borough Market or over the Hungerford bridge to Covent Garden.
Bus 65 goes through Richmond, through Kew (for the gardens), thence to Brentford FC or possibly Chelsea FC

I agree Thorpe Park is a good option if they enjoy theme parks. A few other ideas:

  • London Dungeons
  • Head to Piccadilly Circus / Leicester Square for the day
  • Twickenham Stadium Tour - if they like Rugby
  • Sky Garden - free but need to book in advance is great for views
  • Richmond or Bushy Park are close to Kingston
  • Go Ape in Battersea
  • Jump Giants Trampoline Park near Heathrow
  • Escape rooms
