Do you think it’s ok for a girl of 13 to get the bus at 9.30 at night

Hi me and my dp disagree with this. I feel uncomfortable with a 13 year old getting a bus at 9.30 at night I’m not that keen them getting a taxi either I would rather pick them up myself knowing they are safe but at 13 she is pushing for more independence and wondering if I’m being over protective? What does everyone else think?

No. My 13 year old is generally in bed at that time reading unless she is away with cadets but if she did need to get home myself or my dh would pick her up.

Definitely not. The risk is not worth taking.

Londoner here. Some routes yes the dd's used the bus at 9:30. Other routes not a chance and I explained to the girls why not, so it meant they had to come back earlier.

Thanks everyone, no idea on the routes really so it’s better to be safe than sorry I reckon

Most definitely a no. Because..

Dark
drunks and weirdos
also, lack of 'safer' people around at that time eg elderly, mums with kids

Absolutely not.

Definitely no from me. I'm a Londoner. As a grown woman i had encountered scary incidents twice, around 9.30pm coming home from work after doing some overtime at work and some evening food shopping. On both occasions when i was walking home from the busy bus stop, towards my quiet street, single males tried to approach me from behind, possibly to steal my bag, ask for my purse etc, for drug money.. whatever, and on both occasions my extra vigilance and super alert sixth sense protected me as i sensed/heard them and turned back which they did not expect and it made them stop. These happened in a not so quiet London street in dark winter nights.
I went to the police on one of these incidents but if course nothing could be done. Now, I am extra extra vigilant in the dark, no matter what the time is.
I have a 12 yr old dd and she had an after school club she liked to attend but it meant she would be walking home in a deserted street in the dark, at around 5pm. She told me she doesnt like walking alone in the dark at that time and she wants to taje a break from the after school club until it is lighter. Agreed. I was glad she listens to her instinct.
