Apple Pay on phone for teenagers

Dd is fourteen and pretty mature and responsible. She has to start taking a (public) bus to school this month and rather than relying on her remembering to take cash/ debit card or buying her ticket online (and inevitably forgetting to do that) I thought about adding a debit card to her Apple account so she could pay for bus pass with her phone. I guess it would also be useful for emergencies too.
Has anyone done this? Am I missing anything obvious?!

That could work, thanks. Maybe I just need to set an alarm every Sunday to top it up!

I think 14 years old is too young to give your credit card to.

You say ‘rather than relaying on hetto remember.....’ You need to teach her the life skills to remember, if she doesn’t remember she doesn’t get on the bus. I bet she won’t forget a 2nd time.

My 14 year olds have android pay and they use their own debit cards for it - so there is no difference between android pay and a debit card....you just need to keep their accounts topped up.

Same as Midnight - my DC have there own debit cards and have Apple Pay linked to their own cards. I just top up their accounts as and when required.

Thanks all, think I will add her debit card to it and can easily transfer cash into her account when needed. As me as I’d like her to learn to remember to top it up, I also don’t want the extra hassles in the morning when she can’t get on the bus!

Ds(13) has had his own bank account and debit card for 9 months and uses Apple Pay, it’s all part of learning how to manage money pay for things in shops/buses/etc

One thing I’d say is don’t rely on it and make sure they have cash as a backup if needed. ds has been caught out a couple of times where the shops Apple Pay wasn’t working so he couldn’t get the drink/food he wanted.
