Advice please - What do teenage boys want ?

Hi MN,

Am visiting a good friend this weekend who has two teenage boys. I haven't seen them for many years. The eldest is fourteen and now a full blown stroppy teenager. The younger one more amenable. I'd like to take them a little present of some kind but not sure what would be acceptable. The boys are going through a tough time at the moment with parents splitting up so I want to cheer them up a bit. And as far as the elder one is concerned I'd like to make an effort to help him smile as mum says he hasn't done that in ages and only grunts. Any suggestions? Mum says chocolate but that seems a bit basic. I was thinking ten pounds each ?

Pacific. - now I did think of heading over cashola but wanted to appear as though I'd thought of something clever ie mumsnet had thought of something clever - but yes, cash is totally a failsafe option Wink

Teenage girls!Grin seriously that's a really nice gesture. I'd second money maybe wrapped round a bar of dairy milk!

Both chocolate and cash would be massively appreciated by my teen

troodiedoo · 13/09/2017 19:34

Cash is king for teens. There's a few origami shapes you can do with notes to make it a bit more interesting.

errorofjudgement · 13/09/2017 19:36

Cash and chocolate - honest.

PinkPaeonies · 15/09/2017 11:22

So I'm going to go with cash and chocolate. Might even try some origami! Thanks everyone. Xx

Ime teenage boys don't always smile when they think parents/adults are watching. That can be very normal. Chocolate or cash or cinema or pizza express or nandos etc vouchers all good.

Cash and chocolate.

My ds1 is 15 next week and for various reasons isn't having his birthday present for a couple of months. I want something fur him to unwrap and said I'd get him a big bar of chocolate - cue smile spreading across his face - "a REALLY big mum?".

You can get those Russian roulette jelly bean games which are quite fun
