Holiday in UK with early teen

Methenyouplus4 · 12/09/2017 07:26

We don't have much money this year and we're wondering about somewhere in UK that teenagers would enjoy. Ideally somewhere with activities we could do with him e.g. watersports/ theme park.

It doesn't have to be somewhere with activities every day, just a handful we can spread across holiday to interest him. Centre Parcs etc not in our price range.

In the past we have done (near) Edinburgh, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Wales and Derbyshire.

Had thought somewhere down south for warmer weather?

London is the obvious one. I took my 10'and 13 year olds in the summer and they had a blast. So much to do and loads of free stuff.

We've holidayed in Beverley in Yorkshire a few times. It's been an ideal base.

My friend used to go to Cornwall to do watersports.

Parking here...two teens, watching for ideas tooGrin

Pembrokeshire, we stayed near Tenby. Surfing, paddle boarding, coasteering. There is a theme park in the area but we didn't go.

I came on the suggest Nottinghamshire/derbyshire but seen you've done that already. Another suggestion for London - stay slightly out and get train in for cheaper hotels

Air b and b. You can get some very good deals.

What kind of teen are we talking? Sporty-Yorkshire sales or Lake District. Academic-London for galleries and museums. Bland AF-centreparks. Homebody-Airbnb cottage is the most remote location possible. Then of course there are niche interests. If your kid is obsessed with puffins take them to see some puffins, if they are interested in medical history do a tour of medical castles and cathedrals (Lincoln has a good one and a Tudor fesitivak too if I remember correctly).

Cheshire is beautiful with adventure activities such as:

Go Ape (Delamere Forest)
goape.co.uk/days-out/delamere

Manley Mere adventure trail

The Crocky Trail (Waverton)

Other great outings:
Cheshire ice cream farm (Tattenhall)

Boneyard skatepark (Tattenhall)
boneyardskatepark.co.uk/

Chester zoo (uk's No1 zoo)

Chester is a great city to visit with roman walls, amphitheatre & unique 'rows' for shopping, some great little restaurants that appeal to kids:

'Hanky pankys pancakes'
'Off the waffle'

Also a trip to Liverpool is a short train journey away, beautiful cultural city with amazing museums and the Albert Docks.

We go for London. Stay slight out so it's cheaper and get the train or tube.

Tons to do.

We did Monopoly board in a day in London. Good fun and saw lots of the city for free!

Keehar256 · 12/09/2017 19:51

Stayed Airbnb so pretty cheap.
