Does anyone else agree that it would be useful to have a sticky of a thread (even this thread) where posters put up information about websites, apps and social media trends that are potentially dangerous or otherwise worrying to tweens and teens? I always feel that I'm on the back foot with these things, and never really know what is going on. It's things with anonymous chat and question asking platforms that really freak me out, but also anything that is an easy route for ridicule or hate I suppose.

*I think Omegle.com is still operating (anonymous chat)
*sayat.me is no longer operational (phew), although they site says it is undergoing maintenance so it could return.
*Got an email from school today about qooh.me which is also anonymous chat (a bit like ask.fm)

Does anyone know of any others?

Anything on the Internet where people can chat / message each other. This includes Mumsnet.

The whole internet

The whole internet. But there’s a new app going around- Sarahah. People can send anonymous questions etc. The app developers take your contact info even if you decline- google it, there’s a few articles. My dd had been using it but deleted it and told me when she saw the article being passed around on snapchat.

I think it's a very good idea. One of my projects for this academic year is to try to educate myself about this sort of thing before DD1 starts high school next year and gets a phone. I am a social media virgin (apart from MN) so there's a lot to learn, but I think it's essential to understand this topic because it seems to cause so much angst and pressure for teens.

I've just finished quite a hefty training course on this subject.
I have lots if course material if anyone wants to ask questions.
The long and the short of it as with all things teen related, is open communication.
The law with regards to the sharing of images is extremely important to read up on as well.
