Pocket money

DD is now 13 and up to this point has never had pocket money. We are thinking that we will set her up with a bank account and put in a monthly sum of money so she can learn to budget etc and be in charge of.

We would still buy her all necessary clothing/shoes etc but if she wanted stuff on top of what I would normally get then she would be responsible for it/when she goes shopping with friends etc.

She does help out around the house but will have some additions in responsibilities.

I just wondered about the amount and whether anyone would be happy to share what they do with their young teens?

Went through this in April-ish... My OH (her step dad) and I decided on £10 a week with chores done, £5 without

Thanks-that's about the amount we were thinking of.

I give my daughter £10 a month into her bank and I pay her phone - £12.00 a month

We pay £5/week and then we give them money if they socialise as that's what we want to encourage - not money hoarding!

FrenchRoast · 28/08/2017 19:41

sorry should have said we cover all other expenses - £5 is just fun money!

I like the idea of being sociable! DD is very sociable and I can never get rid of her but DS1 would rather play on his Xbox or similar as everything else is "boring"! DS2 is also a v sociable chap but it's DS1 I worry about most.
