How do it get DS (16) to take antibiotic tablets

DS is 16. He has a in growing toenail and we went to the local minor injuries and the nurse gave him antibiotics. She gave him tables (capsules) as he is 16, and I thought this would be a good chance to get him to take them instead of liquids. We had tried before, but he isn't very happy about swallowing things.

Well, it has been a nightmare. I've tried fizzy drinks, water, squash, a banana, fruit smoothie, and all sorts and he says he can't swallow them.

Any other ideas on how to do it?

We started with a little vitamin tablet everyday, and worked from there.

But the tic tac idea is genius!

I came across this problem when DS1 was 14. As others have said he'd only had liquid medicine as a child. It was very frustrating but he watched YouTube videos on how to do it and managed eventually. A tiny bit of bread afterwards helped. He can swallow a horse pill now.Wink

My kids started with a tiny piece of apple, which they treated like a pill. Try something a bit softer if tic-tacs are too difficult, then move to tic-tacs.

No help to OP now, but I started all my kids on tablets from age 6 so they get used to it, as I have so many friends with teens still taking calpol!

Try jelly babies to practise. Cut a teeny bit and swallow whole. Then try with bigger and bigger bits.

Thanks all!

Had some success with tick tacks and a water bottle. It's going to take a while but hey ho. Wish I had tried at 6 Wink gotta love a bit of hindsight Smile

We've tried with dissolve in the mouth and crushed tablets aged 5 (travel sickness medicine) and he wasn't ready. So sometimes I think they just are too young.
