Trying to help a young cousin

My DCousin is 17. He has dropped out of college, and has had to leave home because of a family breakdown. That's a long story, and not relevant, but the lad can't live at home.

He is living with a slightly older friend who has been left in family home to finish apprenticeship while his parents live elsewhere for a year with the father's work.

DCousin has no money other than an irregular job in hospitality which is v badly paid £3+ ph). They are in a rural area, so it's difficult for him to get to work as he can't drive, and no car anyway.

DCous is looking to me for advice. I'm much older (due to mixed up family generations) and he can't talk to his parents. He is in Wales, I am in Somerset.

Is DCous entitled to any benefits to help with living costs? Where would we enquire?

He's hoping to go back to college in Sept to re-start A levels or equivalent., but still couldn't live at home. "The system" doesn't seem to have caught up with him being not in education, employment or training at 17.

Would be grateful for any advice.
Thank you

Would social services help? Would also speak to Social security - not sure what it's called now - sorry that's all I can suggest. The Government seem to have washed their hands off vulnerable young people. Sad

Thank you for the suggestion. We are planning to try them.
Agree, re govt. She seems to be falling between being a vulnerable child and an adult who can claim JSA.
