Hi
First time on mumsnet, looking for teens advise.
Looking thru a few threads and noticed lots of abbreviations such as:
DD, DS, DD1 etc.
What do they mean?

Hi - there's a handy acronym list here.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 10/05/2017 21:54

You get used to it very quickly oh and welcome!

DD is darling DD DD1 first born daughter DH darling husband DS is darling son Ddog etc Smile

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 10/05/2017 21:55

Or just click on Hassleds list!

Hassled · 10/05/2017 21:56

So if DD is Dear/Darling Daughter and DS is Son, then DD1 will show that there are other daughters in the family (DDs 2 & 3 etc). DS3 is the third son.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/05/2017 21:56

Dd is darling daughter
Ds - darling son
Dh - darling husband
Dp - darling partner.

PIL/MIL/FIL - parents in law/mother in law/father in law
BIL/SIL - brother in law/sister in law

Dsis - dear sister
Dbro - dear brother

There is a proper list of acronyms somewhere, but new ones get coined all the time.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/05/2017 21:58

Oh - and whilst ds3 means my third son, ds (3) tends to mean my son who is three years old.

Ebf - exclusively breastfed
Ff - formula fed

Lilmisskittykat · 10/05/2017 22:08

The acronym list was dead handy!

The whole ds / dp etc sounds daft I think.. I'd never refer to my husband as 'darling husband' in real life.. when I read it it always sounds sarcastic or over sugary in my head 😂

Hassled · 10/05/2017 22:11

When I joined MN I found it unbearable - now I don't even notice it. If I think about it at all, it's definitely a sarcastic "darling".

Nickynoodleness · 10/05/2017 22:28

Thank you everyone Smile

Hi im new too so this list is handy, will try to get used to it. My DS is 17yrs old next month and not so much of the darling about him at the moment:((

Deb0409 · 13/12/2017 17:58

So why no 'D'MIL, 'D'FIL, 'D'PIL, 'D'SIL, 'D'BIL? The whole 'darling' and 'dear' is nauseating in itself, but then when it's left out of the in-laws abbreviations, you all remind me of the horrendous family I married into that viewed 'the wives and husbands of' as secondary to their family unit; never quite appreciating that those wives and husbands were the most important person in their "DD"s or "DS"s lives. I can't believe that Mumsnet has allowed this ridiculous practice to continue all these years.

Fekko · 13/12/2017 18:02

Oh come on, I even say Dhorse yesterday!

Fekko · 13/12/2017 18:02

Saw not say

Weezol · 15/12/2017 00:33

Bump

Childrenofthestones · 15/12/2017 07:03

The whole thing can be very clicky, but remember you don't have to use it, I never do.
I just find it all a massive distraction when you read other people's posts.

Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2017 07:27

After a bit you don't even notice or think about 'D' anything. DH is just husband and DS is just son.
Best not to overthink it as anything twee/nauseating etc Everyone knows what it means.

Deb0409 · 15/12/2017 10:51

The first thing that springs to my mind when I see DD is Darling Dog! Can't seem to shift it. Wink
