How much roughly to add DS17 to my car insurance?

Does anybody know roughly how much it is to add a young learner driver to your own insurance??

I would try it on a price comparison site so you can get an idea - it will vary due to your type of car, your driving history etc.

One of my friends was put on his mum's insurance for her VW polo as a learner at 17 and the quote was £5k for the year

An arm and a leg, literally....

depends on your car, but if you want a real fright think about when the learner driver has passed!

A friend's just done it for £500, apparently that's a bargain.

try marmalade insurance. I only heard about it on here - its learner driver insurance which doesn't affect your policy and is really reasonable.

We've just paid about £100 for a month. In fact ds has only got behind the wheel a few times this month so it would have been cheaper to do it daily (which costs about £15).

When my DD was learning I used to hire a dual control car for a few hours each week, I didn't feel confident enough to take her out in my car especially since emergency stop was one of the last things she learned with her instructer.

When she passed her test I had to have a black box fitted as the insurance was too high without one. Shes now buggered off to uni leaving me to have my driving monitored every day!

The 'learner' insurance can be relatively cheap compared with once they've passed.
Probably a LOT cheaper, and FAR more efficient use of time and money, not to say wear and tear on nerves and family relationships to pay for a 2nd lesson each week, or a two hour lesson rather than one.

I think we paid £140 pcm for 3 months with direct line for our 17 year old DS this summer. We then moved to Admiral and got it down to £100 pcm. We're in greater London.

DH has just had a quote to add learner DS to his insurance and it was about £500 too. He used compare the market. I think the expensive time is when the DC pass and want to drive solo

I was quoted £6000 to add DD to my insurance (also a Polo). Changed to Direct Line and got it for around £1200. It did not go up when she passed.

I just phoned for my 17 yr old ds. We have a new fiesta and were quoted £800 for the 8 months left on the annual policy and £3400 for the 8 months if he had passed his test!

I'm looking at Marmalade for dd1, had a lot of recommendations.

Insurance to add a learner won't be too bad, as they will be supervised. As already pointed out it's when they pass that it will shoot through the roof. As a guess expect it to go up three or four fold at this point.

Marmalade - £78 per month for DS. Same sort of price as we were quoted to add him to ours (£1000) but doesn't affect our insurance if he has an accident. Usually just about doubles when they pass. Far more than the value of our car

I'm currently learning (30 years old) and insured myself and DB whose taking me out on a Meriva for £750 with Aviva (I got 20% discount as I have other insurance with them). When I was using compare websites there were some that were cheaper than £750 whilst I was learning but then skyrocketed to well over £1000 if I looked at having passed.
