You may have seen the post on social media today about the teenager who posted a pic of her headphones and got a dickish response. If not, this is it (originally in the Daily Fail but not posting that link to spare you all) https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/teenagers-photo-new-headphones-proves-8682831.amp?client=firefox-b

That's my DD! It's absolutely crazy how its spread like wildfire. So proud of her, she's a pain in the arse a lot of the time but she don't take no shit from no-one! She's had contact from all sorts of media outlets...I think it must be a slow news day! 😂

Your daughter is brilliant Emsie. But I really can't believe that MN posters are ALSO going on about her looks too. Exactly what your daughter is making a point about in the Star's reporting of her story!

noblegiraffe · 24/08/2016 21:22

She posted a picture of her headphones and got a creepy comment from a guy.

She then posted the oft made argument that girls wouldn't get creepy comments if they didn't post slutty pics.

Clearly as the headphone pic was not slutty and got a creepy comment nonetheless, that argument is bollocks, and girls get creepy comments regardless of what they post.

It's not their fault.

AnyFucker · 24/08/2016 21:27

Noodles, I don't think it's quite the same

If I understand correctly, the comments she took issue with were of a creepy sexual nature. Those types are not actually about appearance at all, much like rape is not about sex. It's about putting women in their place...as a receptacle for men to wank into

Other mums telling a mum her dd is beautiful are not comparable and I find doing so fucking offensive

emsiewill · 24/08/2016 21:29

Noblegiraffe has it! She was making the point that whatever picture girls post, there's always someone who will sexualise it.

I didn't get it at first - we were away with the family over the weekend, and she was saying something about having 30,000 retweets and 50,000 likes, but I was distracted by in-laws faffing etc. It's only when she said the Mail had done an article about her that I got it...

(I did note the irony of people commenting on her looks...but I do agree she's beautiful of course)

She was making the point that whatever picture girls post, there's always someone who will sexualise it.

And then the secondary point that whenever a young woman does anything, even calling out sexism, the press will jump to call her a "sexy teen" or something else horrible.

charliedontsurf · 24/08/2016 21:37

This is amazing! Your daughter rocks.

Dilligaf81 · 24/08/2016 21:41

Well done to your daughter and you for obviously being a good role model. Awful that girls are still receiving these sort of messages.

emsiewill · 24/08/2016 21:58

Tbh, I think girls always will receive these sort of messages...but as long as they're prepared to stand up for themselves and others then all is not lost.

What a strong, smart and awesome girl you've raised! Good job, both of you! Star

musicposy · 25/08/2016 10:02

She rocks! It just shows that, even when you're wringing your hands in despair, you're still doing something very right! Good on her.Star

Imscarlet · 25/08/2016 10:06

I read that during the week! Well done to her, beautiful girl!

emsiewill · 25/08/2016 12:39

She does often cause us to wring our hands in despair! But yes, its a good feeling to know she's clearly on the right track.
