My 15 yr old DD is suffering from BED. She is not overweight but has put on weight in recent months. She used to run in competitions, but now she has stopped growing and her peers are literally overtaking her, so she doesn't want to run any more. All she wants is to lose weight (her words) and this has taken over all her thinking. Over the last few weeks she has retreated into herself, and the first week of the school holidays she has spent mostly in her room. When she comes downstairs, she just sits staring into space, not speaking, or, crying.
She has had a few sessions with a counsellor, but it doesn't seem to have helped (mainly because she didn't tell the counsellor the things she tells me). We've seen the doctor and got a referral for CAMHS, and I'm looking for a different kind of counsellor/therapist.
My question is - how do I handle this on a day to day basis? For instance, DD has asked me to lock the food cupboard doors and to hide any 'bad' foods, so she can't binge.
It's impacting on all of us, especially DS (12) who doesn't understand what's going on, is stick thin, tall, and eats like a horse.
Any thoughts?
