Dd worried about her height

She is 13, just finished Year 8. She's always been on the short side. She did have a bit of a growth spurt at the start of puberty but it wasn't as dramatic as she'd expected.

She is now about 4'11". Periods started about 6 months ago, she's convinced she's not going to grow much more. I've heard most growth occurs before periods start, but 13 seems very young to stop growing.

I was 4'5.5 at 12, started my periods at 14, was 5'4.5 at 17 and am now 5'5.

I've just noticed this post but it's probably a bit late for a reply!
When kids stop growing all depends on their bone age. That's why the smallest in year 6, could be the tallest by year 10!
If your dd's bone age is delayed, she'll carry on growing a bit longer, but if it's advanced, she will have stopped growing. One of mine grew a few inches after their periods started and the other one (had advanced bone age) didn't grow at all after periods started.
The growth charts in the red book are all based on bone age being actual age, so if you don't know your child's bone age, the charts are useless.😒
As she's just about 5ft, she'll be petite😀. I'm 5ft1 and as I got older, I just got used to it and there are plenty of girls that size.

I think it all depends on bone age. The growth charts all assume bone age equals actual age, that's why they are misleading, as with advanced bone age, you stop growing years before the chart says you will. If a dc is at the bottom of the chart and bone age is advanced, they won't make adult height. There is treatment to slow bone age though which really helps reach adult stature.

My 14 yo is about 5ft and she's had her periods a year. I'm really not sure she will grow more but she seems so bloody short!
12yo DD is the same height as her and periods for about 3 months so I think she will overtake and shoot up suddenly.
Dd14 is upset about her short stature. She has size 5 feet which seem larger than her height!

I did the measuring thing when they were toddlers (doubled their height at age 2 I think) and DD1 came out at 5'1 and DD2 at 5'3
Which I think will be about right

Hi Dancergirl, I know this is an old post but I am having the same worries with my daughter and I wondered where your had ended up? Did your dd grow any more, did you have any more tests. I hope you don’t mind me asking, it is just that I am a worrier? Thank you. 😀

I got my periods when I was 9 - obviously kept growing and am 5.6 now.

Growth is really hard to predict. I have to tall DDs - and they definitely hadn't finished growing by age 12, though they were well established in puberty. DD1 did another 6 inches, DD2 is now 16 and has just had a massive spurt. I grew an inch at age 19.

Small people do pop up in tall families and the reverse - you have to look across multiple generations.
