Advice - Struggling to find school uniform to fit.

My 12 yo dd is 5ft 5in and obviously into adult sizes. This year I was able to source black trousers, skirt, jumpers etc in "trendy" shops that she is able to be seen in but luckily we were still able to get the last size in kids range for blouses however these are now too small in the arms and the body. Luckily she is getting away with it as they are covered up with school jumper at the moment but this will be a problem come spring/summer. I'm babbling, what I'm basically asking after a stressful shopping trip to buy a uniform that had to be a compromise between trendy and decent/practical I don't think I've got the strength to go through this again with the school blouses. Can anyone suggest somewhere I can buy plain white blouses that don't look like something either my mother would wear or , but are bigger than the children's sizes. Cheers

how about short sleeve is hat an option.

then you can go to the unifrom shop and get a short sleeve

the chest sizes are large my daughter has a huge chest size

but marrying the chest size and sleeve length can be tricky - so i go for short sleves.

Not trendy at all but have you tried Tescos? Just that I have an age 14 kagoule from there that fits me perfectly and I'm 5'7" and about a size 12.

I sympathise - my DD is 11 and 5'3", and still going! It's her legs though - her top half is pretty standard child-sized, but she has a 32" inside leg, but obviously is only just developing hips/any sort of womanly shape. So I wondered where you got your trousers? I bought one from Tesco (age 12/13) and a pair from Pilot, size 6, but had to take both in as she's so skinny (24" waist) and no hips. Sorry to hijack but would be glad of any top tips!

Primark have a good range of plain but reasonably fashionable 'office'-wear for adults. That's where I head for if I need a plain white shirt for work.

I don't know if they have any atm but try Matalan, my daughters had plain white tailored poly-cotton blouses from there for school.

Try New Look too.

(Theirs were are V neck with revers though, does she have to wear a tie?)

Or how about M&S fashion blouses?

JanH · 16/01/2007 10:25

Oh, use this link for the M&S one, the other one shows no colours.

Thanks everyone, off into Argyle Street (Glasgow) for a quick look at the new Matalan that opened before Christmas. Finger's crossed. Unfortunately she does have to wear a tie (though you wouldn't think so as the tie is so blooming loose you can hardly see it above her jumper) but it does mean she has to have a collar. All your ideas have given me a starter for 10, I might even get away with the Uniform shop as long as I put the blouses in different bag before I get home of course.

I got her trousers from BHS they do extended length legs and also different waist sizes too.

Crumbs.... Top shop do longer length trousers in black - if that's the right colour for your DD's uniform.

crumbs · 16/01/2007 12:33

Thanks - haven't tried BHS or Top Shop, will have a look

Moneypennygb · 18/01/2007 13:27

Thanks JanH and thanks Matalan. White blouse with 3/4 length sleeve, a collar and at £4 each sent from heaven. I can't believe I'm that excited about a white blouse but heh I thought this was going to be a nightmare.
