DS1 (13) gets £10 a month. I buy his clothes and the odd magazine, and top up his phone but that's usually £10 every few months as he only texts. To earn more he babysits his younger siblings for £2 an hour. This is a fab arrangement as his siblings prefer him to babysit than anyone else, he's dead cuffed as he gets control of the TV and the odd choccy biccy, I get a half price babysitter and he then pays for stuff he would have asked me for anyway

Ds just 13, gets £5.00 per week into a bank account.

I buy his clothes, and give him dinner money.
He has to buy top up card and any bits from that.

However he never spends it, as he is always welded to laptop, (see previous thread!). He is probabaly richest person in this house!

DS1 age 10 gets £5.00 a week and so does DS2 age 6.
DS2 has quite a little nest egg, DS1 however seems to spend it all, he has gone to belgem this week end and off went his last £20.00.

I also have to buy his deoderants etc, because if I didn't he never would...preferring to smell instead

I was giving dd(15) £5 a week ,but we have decided to try giving her an allownace of £80 a month. She has got a proper bank account with a card and online banking. She has to get everything except school stuff.
It isnt working too well yet ,(she has been totally skint since valentines day!)but I'm hoping it will teach her about managing money so she doesnt get into debt when she leaves school

My ds1 (10) but in Year 6 so nearly 11, gets £1.50 a week. So Surfermum, you are not alone. I feel we should raise it but affording to do so might be a problem.

Talking to a friend of mine this week with a 17 year old dd, she gives her a monthly allowance of £65 out of which she has to buy pretty much everything bar coats and one pair of shoes.

Merlin- I started when dd1 was6 and dd2 was 5 they get £1 a week when I/dd1 remember, to buy sweets /comics/books with.DD1 is a hoarder dd2 is a spender!

DS (12) gets £3/week, DD (8) gets £2/week. Theoretically they are supposed to do some work for it, like keeping their rooms tidy.

They can also earn other small amounts for odd jobs.
