Am I being unreasonable?

Hi everyone
I am the mother of two teenagers - a boy age 13 and a girl age 15.
It is my husbands birthday tomorrow and rather than giving him a present, I told the kids that we would be taking their dad out for dinner tomorrow. However, they seemed unhappy when I told them that they would be paying a third of the cost each.
Is it unreasonable of me to ask my children to pay a part of the bill when we go out for dinner tomorrow?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

How the fuck does a 13 year old with no pocket money cover that and more to the point, why should hey?

I'm assuming from your username you are the 15 year old....

You know, these online discussions tend to work much better if you are honest from the start.

Sofia, if this is a reverse, your mum is being very unreasonable.

SmokingGun · 03/03/2016 21:03

Where does your mum think you will get the money from Sophia? And your brother? What have you bought for your dad?

endofmytethertake100 · 03/03/2016 22:27

So a third would be 2 and a half months allowance the other has 0 and they have already brought presents. Yes you are being unreasonable !

I honestly don't think this can possibly be serious?! You tell them what 'gift' they are buying?! Hardly in the spirit of giving is it? What lesson has that taught your children? Let them choose! My husband's favourite gift ever from our children was an enormous picture they drew of him-it was life sized after they stuck all the paper together. It was the love and effort that went into it that he loves and it now has a bespoke frame! All you'll do by making them pay is make them resent the gift and their poor dad. Awful.

Are you serious?!
