We bought our 13 year old a Converse coat at Christmas (detachable hood). Has he worn it?

No.

lizzie1971 · 18/01/2016 00:09

Try Superdry store on eBay
stores.ebay.co.uk/The-Superdry-Store
Some things are seconds (the listing will tell you) but lots aren't and prices are much like those in the outlet stores.

BertrandRussell · 18/01/2016 00:15

Ds has a Superdry coat from TKMaxx- 30 quid- they had loads last aeek.

Before that, he had a Primark duffel- also abou 30 quid.

Any use?

martini · 18/01/2016 00:20

Got my DS a Superdry second from EBay store. Only issue was the seam under arm being slightly unstitched. Took 5mins to fix and has worn non stop for 2 years (other than the 3months it was in school lost property)

It is not at all dry but at least is warm.

lasermum · 18/01/2016 00:31

DS2 14 is in a squad connected with his sport. As a member of the squad he is eligible to wear a squad jacket/coat - the only coat he has worn for years.

JustDanceAddict · 18/01/2016 10:38

I'm still getting away w Primark for my 11 yr old boy!! It wont last long. I bought him a cheap one as I knew that it would be the last year, and he's still pretty reluctant to wear a coat unless sub zero temps.
Dd (13) wears New Look parka. I think it's different for girls though.
For school they never wear coats and put on hoodies under blazer for journey, then put in bag afterwards.

PolovesTubbyCustard · 18/01/2016 10:43

DS now 18 - has never worn a coat for school. Even today in 1C temps he trotted off in a hoodie, with a long sleeved tshirt underneath.

Sigh.

he doesn't have to wear school uniform now either - so could get away with a lighter jacket, but says can't be bothered trailing to his locker.

In the uniform years he wore a thermal baselayer under his shirt. So baselayer, shirt and blazer. Brrrrr...

Whathaveilost · 18/01/2016 11:45

I'm glad mine have some brains about them
DS1 wears base layers to work and DS2 to school ( base layers formerly known as long john, tights, vests etc. 'Base layers' sounds more contemporary!)

Like I said before they both wear a coat. DS1's is fantastic

while DS2 prefers this :www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/jack-wolfskin-mens-millertown-f65-parka-a1212891?id_colour=124

We don't live in the artic circle, we live in Lancashire!!!

ggirl · 18/01/2016 17:40

well maybe ds doesnt have any brains Whathaveilost ,but he certainly won't be getting a coat that costs £330 !

BertrandRussell · 18/01/2016 17:57

Not sure about DS's brains- but I've certainly got enough to stop me spending over 300 quid on a school coat!

PolovesTubbyCustard · 18/01/2016 17:59

Where is the 'like' button?

Wink
Whathaveilost · 18/01/2016 18:04

Sorry! it's a common figure of speech where I am from!
Can I add I didn't pay for it. I did say it was the older DS that got it and he paid for it himself.

The point I was trying to make was that a lot of teenager lads do where coats. Sorry again!

Whathaveilost · 18/01/2016 18:36

.......and just to add to my post DS bought that coat to wear on a trip to North Norway in a couple of weeks and does a lot of winter outdoor stuff. Again the point was teenage boys and coats.

I meant to add on my last post, as I was driving home past schools this afternoon I did notice a split with the lads. I would say half were wearing just blazers but the other half had the parka style coats and beanie hats that DSs' favour. Maybe some feel the cold more!

18yoMum · 26/01/2016 18:51

Peter Storm coats are brilliant, my DS has one which allows him to unzip part, so can be a fleece, raincoat or winter jacket all in one! It was on sale in blacks for about £50, and its done the job for a while.Grin

2boysnamedR · 26/01/2016 18:57

eBay outlet for women's superdry coats. My 12 year old is a small ( size 10) no way of knowing it's not a blokes.

I ordered him a Verbeudet wind cheater. It was a bargain but so small. He is a tiny waif but it didn't fit him.

I melted his Superdry coat in the dryer. Expensive mistake. Bloody teenagers!

2boysnamedR · 26/01/2016 18:59

They have some for £29 which is as much as a high street brand like Next. Size and style dependant

BabyGanoush · 27/01/2016 08:39

are you sure it doesn't have the telltale bust seam? Most women's clothes do!

2boysnamedR · 27/01/2016 09:22

No not on his current one which is a small wind heater ( from a outlet store in a outlet park). Maybe the bigger ones might but his is completely flat. Also tbh I honestly couldn't see any normal proportioned woman fitting into it. Maybe it's just the smaller sizes that are less girly?

I will double check when he gets home and report back...

2boysnamedR · 27/01/2016 09:22
  • wind cheater - not heater
powerfail · 27/01/2016 14:37

God my children are the school uncool nerds aren't they? Both plodded off in coats this morning, the 13 year old in a Superdry pink waterproof coat with hood and Karrimor Waterproof boots with school shoes in her bag.

2boysnamedR · 27/01/2016 15:25

My son won't even wear a coat to school in the snow!

Even his superdry coat isn't the done thing to wear. No child in his school ever wears a coat!

They are all utter sheep and indeed would jump off a cliff if it was the done thing. Drives me bonkers!

Twitterqueen · 27/01/2016 15:31

Seriously? you know that you are completely wasting your time and money don't you?

another one speaking from bitter experience with 3 DDs.....

Ellybellyboo · 27/01/2016 15:42

My 14 year old DD won't wear a coat to school either. They're not allowed them on inside school and doesn't have a locker so refuses to carry a wet coat around. How carrying a coat is worse than wearing wet clothes all day I haven't worked out yet

I gave mine a budget and let her choose. She went for a Jack Wills jobbie (currently the 'in' label here) and will wear it out of school, just not in school

I have a thin, waterproof, quilted jacket that I bought in a Barbour outlet for £30 a couple of years ago which she'll pinch if it's really wet as she can screw it up into a carrier bag (so long as it's not a Sainsbos one Hmm ) and shove it in her school bag

I've also bought her a couple o white thermal base layer tops to wear under her shirt and a couple of cardigans she can hide under her blazer. She complains it's too hot in school for the thermals though, but will wear the cardigans if it's really cold.

2boysnamedR · 27/01/2016 16:15

My sons ladies small ( size ten?) Winchester. I can confirm its got no bust darts ( I also strongly suspect it wouldn't fit a size 10 woman)

So not to bad value for a boys coat at £29

Thanks for super dry link, like the reduced wet scuba coat. My sons both have outlet black waterproof coats from Trespass thin enough to roll up and put in bag but plain enough not to be an issue if they are desperate enough to have to wear a coat. One coat has detachable hood. They are only worn in the most extreme of circumstances over blazer. It has been so mild this Winter though that am really not too worried. They seem to survive with super dry hoody and layers out school.
