Contact lenses

Dd16 wants to try contact lenses as she does not want to wear her glasses all the time. She is quite short sighted so needs to but vanity etc gets in the way.

I was thinking the daily disposable ones would be best for her as she is lazy and probably would not be great at cleaning the others.

Anyone else's dc's got these are are they ok with them?

I had monthly ones at 15, and I now wear all day all night lenses.

Make sure she knows she needs to follow the opticians instructions re hygine and length of wear etc.

When I first got my all day all night ones I wore them for three months with just occasional cleaning Blush should've had new ones after s month but I was a student and stupid. I had to have three months of no lenses and the optician was close to referring me to a specialist at a hospital. That was 10 years ago and I've had no further problems but there is still scarring in my eyes that the opticians can see. Happy to be used as a warning tale!

I've had lenses for 20 odd years now, started with them when I was about 16. Daily disposables weren't an option, and I was quite lazy, but I was fine with them and still am. Two weekly disposable ones are good. Not a problem if you accidentally sleep in them for a night or two, and not too fragile.

The optician will explain how to clean them properly, generally they're pretty uncomfortable if you don't look after them properly, and if she gets an eye infection or something she'll be back to wearing glasses, so there's an incentive right there.

I got mine at 15. I had monthlies but I would thoroughly recommend dailies as they are much easier!

Dailies definitely. Tell her no sleeping in them under any circumstances. Show her gross google images of infected eyes etc to drill it into her.

DS1 & DS2 got contacts at about 14 or 15. Both had daily disposables & they managed perfectly.

I got hard lenses at 15, much better vision. Was often lazy re daily cleaning but luckily i had no issues either x

DS1 got daily ones at 12 but after the initial enthusiasm he didn't bother with them after a few months. He's 15 now but at the time he got them originally, the optician said that they'd start him on Daily ones but if he was ok they'd transfer him onto something else (Monthly maybe) in a year or two. He has an abnormally strong blink reflex (apparently) so he struggled a bit getting them in and out.

My 11yo has dailies, because she doesn't wear them daily, if that makes any sense - if she was going to wear them more often she'd need reusables apparently... she manages fine with them.
