More tips - believe me you are going to get so bored of advice in the next 5 months!

  • don't buy lots of clothes because you will get given tons of presents and hardly worn hand me downs, just get a set of basic babygrows and vests. I was given so many lovely clothes that my babies sometimes didn't even get to wear an outfit before they outgrew it.
  • list the things that you actually buy. I ended up buying tons of sets of pram sheets probably due to hormone related memory lapses and ended up giving away unopened packets of the things because I had bought far more than I could ever use!
  • Don't feel you have to have everything before the birth. remember that shops will still exist when you are a mother (although shopping will be a more fleeting experience!). Things like cots and stairgates will not be vital for a good few months and you may well get offered more baby gear when your baby is born.

Hi, just wanted to say, im so glad everything is going well for you!

Agree with the others, dont buy too much, you will be given loads once babe is born!
If you have to buy, Ebay is fantastic, for everything! Prams etc are much cheaper on there.

When i had Dd i think the only brand new things we had were the pram, the cot and the steriliser and bottles.

Keep posting on your progress.xx

lucyw19 · 07/12/2006 18:00

Well i think my mums buying the cot, so if its thier then its thier =]

We are very grateful as ill have most of the expensive stuff brought ( i hope) and we get avent things discounted so thats good!

Im just gettign a bit excited i guess so buying things makes it more real =]

Hey lucy.

My mum's buying the cot as well. Apparantly it's tradition in the family for the granmother to buy the cot, her mum bought mine etc. Which i thought was really sweet, started crying when she told me - damn hormones!
Still haven't bought anything yet, though i have a library of flippin baby books. My excuse for them is 'you can never be too prepared', truth is i just like looking at all the cute baby pictures - sad isn't it! Though every time i'm in a supermarket i make a point of walking down all the baby isle's going awwwwww all the way down it. People must watch me and go - she's flippin mental!
Going home for xmas in a week - so excited. My sisters already teasing me cause she can call me fatty! (I'm usually size 8, always have been and she says she's gonna love seeing me fat for a change!) Pitty for her i'm still in my size 8 jeans and not showing very much at nearly 4 months - she'll be v. dissapointed!!!!
Seeing my midwife this weekend and she's gonna do i blood test for downs syndrome - bit nervous!
xx

lucyw19 · 08/12/2006 17:00

I wouldnt worry, their should be no reason why u should be high risk!

You no i havent had any changes in hormones or anything really accetp a small bump.

I have my 20 week scan on the 29th december the day afetr my birthday!!

Are you going to find out what your having??

Congratulations Lucy!

I didn't start buying anything until I was at least 5 months pg tbh. Don't forget to have a look at the For Sale board on MN for clothes and equipment.

Lwatkins · 08/12/2006 18:10

Yeah i will find out what the sex is if i can, hopefully bean wont be turned away so they cant see! Will you find out? Oh i'm getting sooo excited about everything! By the time i come back after xmas i'll be 5 months gone - half way there!!!

don't find out, that moment in the delivery room where you see them for the first time and find out is incredible, don't lose out on it

MamaG · 10/12/2006 13:44

Oh I remember you lucy! Glad things are going well. Agree with everything that has been said. My babies lived in babygros for at least the first 3 months!

MamaG · 10/12/2006 13:45

(and DO find out. Its exciting - when you have the baby you get to meet him/her for the first time and see what they look like. Finding out the sex at your scan is like getting a present )

PinkTinsel · 10/12/2006 13:50

bet you sneak looks at your xmas pressies too mamag

SpaceCadet · 10/12/2006 14:01

you dont need to buy much to start with,as you never really know how big your baby will be, definitely go to the sales after christmas, my ds2 was due in march and i bought everything i needed for him in the january sales.
lovely to hear from you again, glad every thing is going ok

Hi Lucy, and CONGRATULATIONS! So lovely to hear your latest news . Thought I'd post to say that but also have you seen the ante-natal clubs on here? Have found them really geat for support and it's really good to chat to people expecting at the same time as you. Hth.

MaLady · 14/12/2006 11:19

Although I can see you've had really great support on here - what a great bunch of ladies. Just thinking long-term it might be a nice idea.

PinkTinsel · 14/12/2006 11:21

do check out the ante natal thread lucy, they're invaluable support and they tend to stick together after the births, ds was born in july but i still go to the born in aug post natal and there are ladies there who had babies in sept too. you'll make some really good friends and it's always reassuring to know other people are having the same weird symptoms as you!

lucyw19 · 16/12/2006 10:03

ive just gone on to the website so waiting for replys, i dont have any pregnant freinds and i havent been to any classes, so i feel a bit lonely in my pregnancy.

{{{{{hugs lucy}}}}}

are there any ante natal classes you can go to locally to meet some moms?

lucyw19 · 16/12/2006 11:18

Well, apparently the nhs have cut the classes =[ so i have to pay for them, which i dont mind but we dont have lots of pennies ot go to regular ones!
