Hi what age does child maintenance stop being paid by the non resident parent? DDs dad has stopped payment with no warning now shes 16. Im in the process of writing him a letter as DD has no contact with him but I thought he should contribute while shes still at full time education, am I right?
Thanks

It's up to the age of 20 if they're still in full time education.

My eldest is 18 soon. XH assumes he stops paying at 18 - WRONG! Can't wait to see his smarmy face Wink

It's only when the child is in further education, not higher education afaik.

And if your dd goes to university she can then make a claim for an allowance from her father directly esp if it's to help support her through uni.

Thanks everyone, I was going to let it slide but thought why the hell should I pay for everything, he was part of her life now he can pay too!!

Ah yes, we're at this stage too.

As long as they're still in education, the maintenance still needs paying. If they're not in education (but they should be now by law until 18) then they would be working and paying their own keep.

Also check your court consent order if you have one as ours says I (earn more than their father) must pay university costs. So it might be written into any financial settlement "consent order" you had on finances in the divorce.

It's whilst they are in full time education, but afaik this doesn't include university.
