Do girls get too old for sleepovers?

DD1 is 17 soon, and thinking of what to do for her birthday. She asked me what age girls stop having sleepovers. She said you don't hear of 18 year olds having sleepovers, they just have a night out.

Is she right?

I have sleep overs with my friends and I'm 30. I love a chill night; pjs, junk food, cheesy movies and board games, can't beat it!

goodasitgets · 18/09/2015 18:55

Nah! 31 here and still have sleepovers but with more wine Wink

They have sleepovers more as older teens ime. When booze becomes a bit more involved ( even in a fairly sensible way) they sleepover so they don't drive home drunk !

Really? I was hoping for a pass this year. I hate sleepovers!

My younger DD is 15 & loves sleepovers!!
I live in a little terraced house, so for the last couple of years I have just chucked a load of duvets & pillows into the living room, where the tv/wii/dvd/xbox is, doubly made sure its all locked up for the night & left them to it on the understanding not to make too much noise to keep me & older dd & neighbours awake!!
Can`t you do something like that??

icouldjusteatacroissant · 18/09/2015 20:59

Yes course I can, I just hate sleepovers. Last year she had 6 in her bedroom, much the same set up as you describe Shabby

IMO yes.

I know things have changed, but I used to stay with my friend regularly when I was 17!

She could always put it to the friends she'd like to ask and see what their reaction is.

BertieBotts · 22/09/2015 19:48

I agree but they don't call them sleepovers unless it's in a jokey way. It's just "I'm stopping at so-and-so's"

What about a clause where she can have a sleepover if she and her friends tidy up and make you breakfast in bed? Wink

tametempo · 22/09/2015 20:04

Yep the late teens sleepovers were the best in my opinion. Getting drunk with my mates from the comfort of your own (preferably when the parents are out) are some of my favourite memories.

TheBunnyOfDoom · 23/09/2015 10:37

I had a friend sleep over pretty much every weekend between the age of 15-18. My parents just let us get on with it. I don't see why it really has to affect you at that age?

icouldjusteatacroissant · 26/09/2015 17:31

I just dislike having non family members in the house. Hate it in fact. But they still do come over. DD2 is having a friend over tonight, and she will be made most welcome of course. But I'll still hate her being in the house and will be so glad when she leaves tomorrow!

Bertie, I can't think of anything worse than letting teens tidy my house and make me breakfast in bed. Nobody goes in my room, not even my DC!

If they are going out for the night and then some girls stay over then it's a sleepover as such.
Maybe they will think of it in different terms to when they were 12 having a sleepover, but the end result is the same.
