Runescape . . .

Hi

My dd has asked for a subscription to Runescape for Xmas. Is this wise, I ask myself! However, has anyone any experience of this? I am worried that once I have subscribed to it I may have difficulty cancelling it again? Am I totally mad even considering it? Will I regret it deeply when I fail to see my children at all in future?

Just interested - it seemed cheaper than buying Nintendo games, etc.

I didn't think you had to pay?

It's very addictive - you'll never get him off it! My nephew played it a lot and the family computer got several viruses - don't know if there's a connection.

I've not heard a parent say a good word about it - but lots of moans.

Buy her the Sims, instead

She has already got the Sims and that makes our computer crash! It freezes up the screen and we can't get the disk out of the drive. Funny computer. By the way, she is a girl which is quite unusual on Runescape I think.

I think you're right - most of the kids I know that are obsessed with it are 'geeky' boys.

I just told mine that they couldn't use it as the computer would get a virus - they love the computer so much it put the fear of God into them and they haven't asked again!

By the way, I am one of the moaners too! I have been grumbling about it for ages, but I think I have resigned myself to the fact that they like computers and nothing I say will get them off it.

They hardly watch the tv at all - perhaps an hour a day when they get in from school. I don't like the watch tv all night culture really either - some of their friends watch every soap on the box.

ds2 is a bit prone to plonking himself in front of the telly at every opportunity in the winter, but fortunately neither of mine like soaps!

At least they'd rather be outside when they can, so I try not to mind too much when they're on the ps2 on a cold dark evening.

And if they knew how much time I spend on MN they'd blackmail me!

I signed DS up last Summer - he had been a free player for some time but LOVES the extra stuff he can do now. Kept him busy whilst I was working in hols!

He started secondary school in Sept so can only play at weekends now due to homework - but at £3.20 per month it's great (& part of his pocket money).

figroll · 29/11/2006 20:45

Oh thanks for the replies! I am seriously considering the £3.20 as it doesn't sound very much to me and she does really enjoy it. She is quite good and comes off if I ask her to anyway, although I think she would spend all day on the computer if I let her.

Thanks again - I will give it some more thought, but I might relent and make her happy on Christmas day!

I paid for DS a couple of times. He also buys his friends 'extras' on runescape instead of conventional birthday presents. He went at it like an obsessive maniac for a year, but this year he has drifted away from it. I think it's one of those things that they do grow bored with after a while.

aliceband · 01/12/2006 23:54

i am hoping my ds will grow bored soon. I paid for a subscription, ah, pocket money, good thought. just cannot get him off. Limit him but big row tonight as he just wont listen when he is on!

my son has been into runescape for about two years, i hear that there is hope and they will emerge from it.
