Daughter nearly 15 and not started her period

Hi All,

I am new to the board and have been so worried regarding my daughter not starting her period yet.

She started developing breasts and pubic/underarm hair during the last year or two of primary school, has had the growth spurt, and now has all the curves in the right places.

I guess I am worrying because she started developing 5-6 years ago and she still hasn't started her period.

I took her to the doctors about it recently and she had a blood test to test hormones etc and the results have thankfully come back normal. (It was a locum doctor and took no interest in my daughter to ask her any questions on her development)

Now, being the worrier that I am, have convinced myself she has been born without a womb.

I am wondering if any of you have had experience of yourself or someone you know not having started their periods 5 years or more after developing boobs and hair?

I am going to take her back to the doctors in the new year as she is 15 on the 1st January to see if she can be referred for an ultra sound just to make sure everything internally is in order.

Any advice or experience really would be appreciated

Mine is age 14.5 and has discharge. Sometimes light. Then heavy end of month. I assume that's the body preparing itself for its cycle.

I started at 17 and appear to be fine! I was diagnosed with PCOS at 22 but my periods regular now.

Just started reading these messages as relevant to my daughter at the mo. She’s 15, a very ample chest (D cup) with lots of discharge. She started puberty at 9 with breast development shortly followed by pubic hair growth. She’s had discharge for well over 3 years but absolutely no sign of her period yet. I’ve made an appt with her GP in a few weeks but was just looking for others in a similar situation after reading far too much on Google!!!!!!! I know she’s worried too as all her peers started their period years ago and she’s a lot more developed than them. If anyone is still on this thread then please reply!! 😃

mcmen05... how long have you been waiting for yours DD gynaecologist appt? What did her GP say/do at her first appt regarding this? Many thanks for replying.

mcmen05 · 12/10/2019 13:36

She is on waiting list for 6 months she I s.d having some signs off it coming like discharge and all other developments. She had blood done 2 weeks ago and low blood sugar iron and vitamin d
We have a long wait in roi

Blimey that’s a long wait... hope she gets seen soon and you’re given some answers. I had predicted bloods being taken and a poss pelvic exam. Also been told that maybe a ultrasound scan to make sure everything is there. Fingers crossed nothing is wrong x

JoCrow it's unlikely they will do anything much for a girl under 16, especially one with otherwise normal development. My DD was a very late developer and in fact started her first period on her 16th birthday (she was not best pleased). I was just starting to think about going to the GP at that time. It's also worth looking at your family history - if everyone in previous generations on both sides started young then yes, it's worth chasing up. Conversely in my family we were all late starters - I was 15 1/2 and my Dsis was well past 16.

I was 16 - and am very tall - tho was very active too and probably a little underweight - periods started the year I stopped doing all the sports.

ethnicity can affect the age of puberty -

Just following up on my daughters situation (see above). After having lots of bloods taken but with no real conclusive results other than she doesn’t appear to be ovulating the GP mentioned possibly her having PCOS as she has such bad acne...I had ruled this out after hormone levels came back within the normal range. Referred for an ultrasound scan on her pelvic area and straight away her cystic ovaries showed up. I just knew something was wrong. So I’m glad I followed the GP route as her new diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is what she has ... now wondering if she’ll ever start menstruating!
