My DD is about to start a degree that will entail written assignments. Her English skills are very poor. She only passed her GCSE at the 3rd attempt. I was also hopeless at English but my degree was in Maths. Does anyone know what she could do to improve her written skills within a few weeks. Thanks for yor help.

If she is bright - which she obviously is if she is going to university - but struggles with writing, have you had her assessed for a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia? If she does have dyslexic tendencies, she may qualify for extra time, a scribe or a reader.

Three weeks is too short to be able to make a significant impact on her literacy level. Instead, she would be better off getting together a range of strategies to help her: voice activated software, a dicta-phone, coloured pens and highlighters for drawing diagrams/charts when making notes and possibly a coloured overlay, if that helps her.

She should also let her tutor knows she finds writing hard so any further support can be put in place. There may even be a study skills/writing skills class available which could help her.
