Shopping in Asda yesterday, I had a (teenage looking) checkout girl scanning my shopping. I'd picked up the Johnson Beharry VC book as a Christmas present for my dad. She said, 'oh, what a fantastic man, I saw a documentary about what he did, it made me cry, he's just amazing.' I said most girls of your age don't care about things like this and she said, 'I love reading, I'd love to read this book, I didn't know it was in stock, I'll get a copy. I always read for at least an hour every evening.'

I was gobsmacked! I told her I was getting the book for my dad and she said, 'he'll love it, I would if someone bought it for me.'

Wow, wow, and wow again!

Lots of the evening & weekend checkout staff at our local Sainsbury's are 6th form students. They are suficiently well-motivated to get off their bums & earn extra money towards hobbies or future University fees etc.
My children and those of my friends are brilliant - I genuinely enjoy the company of many of my sons' friends - some of whom I've known since they started Nursery together.
It's the usual case... a few drossy kids give all teenagers a bad name. MOST of them are great, in my opinion.
