What age to do their own ironing?

My dsd will be 14 in February and I think by then she ought to be doing her own ironing. DP disagrees and thinks I should carry on doing it because "there's loads of it and it'd take her ages whereas you're used to it and you can do it really fast. And she is only 13"

I was doing my own from age 12 and I really don't think she's too young, or that it's expecting too much of her. But I'm probably just a horrible wicked stepmum

What do you think?

Actually, I've just thought. Why are you doing her ironing at all? Why isn't her dad if that's the way he feels?? If it's just that you are quicker, just tell them that practice makes perfect .

DS started doing all his own ironing at about 16 - he does it much better than me and he does it as soon as he's washed it, as opposed to my method of shoving it all in the spare room & doing it when I need it DD takes after me & does things as she needs them, but she will often do a basket of ironing for me at 10p an item if she needs extra cash.

One DD is 10 and she helps with some of the ironing, simple bits. Good to get them the appreciate how much we do, if nothing else.

Also DD 7 will do a couple of bits with me next to her - she wants to join in.

If my kids didn't help when they were older they would go out creased!
