Teens and pocket money!

Hi all, hoping to get lots of replies to this because I know it's something most parents wonder about and discuss with teens as they want more and more money the older they get! My daughter has just turned 13 and in the past she hasn't really had a set amount of pocket money, just money when needed. But now she's getting older I think it is going to be a lot easier for both of us if she gets a set amount per week/ month. What do all your teens get? Is it weekly or monthly? And what are they expected to buy out of their money? Also do they have to do jobs to earn it? Sorry so many questions but just very curious! Thanks.

DS 12 gets £16 per month pocket money, paid direct into his bank account. Half of it is automatically transferred into his savings account, the other half is available for him to spend. He doesn't spend a lot though, saves it up for bigger things like PS games.

He has to do whatever jobs we ask him around the house. He doesn't have a phone as he kept loosing them so we stopped that. He could get one with his own money but hasn't yet.

I buy him what he needs (clothes, toiletaries, etc) but if he wants to go out socially with his friends he has to pay for it.

Does he not go out much or socialise, or go to cafes or the cinema etc?
£2 a week?

Ihavebrillohair - I can't answer for overmydeadbody obviously, but my teens don't go to cafes or cinema either.
They socialise a LOT - through the activities they do...Scouts/Explorers an the sports they do.
That said, I don't go to cafes or cinema either - it's not something that I've ever said they can't, just not something they really have time for, or any yearning to do.

DD just 15 gets £70 a month it goes straight into an account. We also save £15 a month for her in another account.
We've just increased from £35, (£20 cash and £15 phone top up). We used to budget £200 pm to spend on the 4 DC but I was spending most of it on DD. So decided to give her her £50 as well as her £20 pocket money.

Out of the £70 she has to top up her phone which is £15 a month. Buy extra toiletries. I buy the usual stuff but she uses loads of face washes and moisturisers so I buy one of each she buys the rest. I've noticed she has cut down since she's had to use her own money.
Pay for any trips out, friends birthdays etc. Buy extra clothes. At the moment she is also saving some spending money for a school trip abroad.

She doesn't have to do chores to earn her money. She keeps her own room reasonably clean and tidy anyway. She mucks in with household chores (sometimes grudgingly) and occasionally looks after her younger brothers for us. We expect this from all the DC as being part of the family though.

Witty, sorry that was a typo. DD is 13 not 12.

DS 13yrs gets £20 each month paid straight into his bank account. He has a debit card, and mainly uses that instead of cash. He tends to save his money up though - last year he saved enough with birthday money added to buy an Xbox One. I pay for his phone contract and xbox live subscription. He goes out a lot with his friends, but usually only to the park, river, beach or each other's houses so doesn't spend much on that. I pay for his clothes, haircuts etc. but as he gets older I'll increase his pocket money and he can take over responsibility for that.

He does have to do some basic chores - he clears the table, empties the dishwasher, hoovers downstairs and keeps his bedroom tidy. His pocket money isn't conditional on doing the chores - we have a rule that he can't go on the xbox unless the dishwasher is empty and his room is tidy which works well for us.

DD(soon to be 16) gets £25 a month straight into her bank account. She also works and pays the cheques in. She has a very healthy bank balance! I pay for her phone and essentials, but she pays for new dresses, etc and if she goes out.

DS(14) also now gets £25 a month straight into his bank account and I pay for his phone and essentials. He hasn't got a job (not as easy as for DD as she coaches her sport) so I do give him the odd extra/buy more clothes for him.

DS 13 gets £20 a month direct into his bank account and I pay for his contract phone. I buy most of his clothes but he will choose to use his money for "named" clothes and I put towards them. He has started shopping himself for presents for us which is quite sweet. If he wants extra money he will ask to do jobs round the house ( pretty rubbish at cleaning!)

DSSs (14 & 16), get £40 PM paid into bank accounts.
