I'm half amused and half serious... all 3 dc's have a couple of modest chores a day which are a condition of getting allowance/pocket money. They all do their chores and without moaning, but....eldest dd14's chore for today was to make some bunting for a party we're having at the weekend. Starts after school with gung ho enthusiasm, draws a template, cuts out first triangle....,goes of to eat some bread and butter. Comes back. Goes off to text. Comes back. Goes off to watch a bit of Toy Story. Comes back. Goes off for drink..,,

In two and a half hours five triangles have been very neatly and precisely cut out and one glued to the cord!

She assures me if she 'can't get it finished today' she will do so tomorrow!

Is this familiar to any mums of teens???

Well -I suppose the party isn't going to flop if you only have 3 bits on your bunting!!!
....and I suppose she should be thankful she doesn't have to clean the bathroom

.... maybe you give her choice - make bunting or buy it out of her allowance - productivity may then speed up

Offer an alternative job - she makes the trifle and you make the bunting ;-) .....or help a bit as sounds like a lovely activity to do together and have a chat at same time about stuff!

I've offered to help so we might do it together later, though she is nit of a perfectionist and I'm not sure my artistic skills will pass muster :) there are still only three bits on the hunting but to be fair she did help with the food shop!
