What should a 17yo's CV look like? DD is after a summer job

DD is looking for a summer job - what should her CV look like?

She keeps downplaying everything she has done & said an employer won't want to know that (I organised a show & made money for charity, I helped out at dance classes)

I said anything that is true & makes you look good is worth writing down -a bunch of GCSEs just makes you look like everyone else looking for work

What do people think?

My nephew (now doing his degree in stage management) worked at McDonalds part time for a couple of years, and it worked really well for him. They were very flexible with shifts which was great for him when he was putting together shows, and when he had more time he picked up more shifts. Since going to uni he's able to work there in the holidays.

Another nephew worked at Next, who weren't flexible at all. A couple of others worked at Sainsburys

For dd it's all about transport - so we will have to see what happens

hi everyone. watching with interest as trying to force persuade dd to get a job this summer. she's a year younger than yours, KatyMac.
she's got a cv but hasnt much experience to put on it, and no paid work.
How do young people her age get jobs at Boots/Next and other big companies who must get thousands of applications??
surely they get so many online applicants with lots of experience , why would they bother with someone who has no experience? Confused
she tried handing in CVs at local cafes before christmas but got no response and it knocked her confidence. she had put so much work into the CV and made herself look very smart etc. then it felt like she'd wasted her time and nobody was interested Sad
i want her main focus to be her college work but i think work experience is important too. i know she feels pressured by me mentioning it, but if i don't she wont' do anything about looking for work.

idrather, companies hire younger people with no experience for summer jobs, because they are dead cheap. Especially for 'simple' jobs, like standing at the cash register, they have no problem hiring teens with no experience.

Any skills you can put down are good for a CV. I started off with a very basic summer job that required no skill at all, but was hard work. So for a next job, I put that on my CV, as it showed I wasn't afraid to work hard and get my hands dirty. It had nothing to do with the new job I was applying for, but it told my prospective employer something about me as a person.
