Hi there,
My son's school is offering an Expedition to Peru next July 2016. my son would like to take part in this 3 weeks expedition that cost £3600.
He said he wants to get most of the fee through sponsorship.
Would you have any ideas how he could do this?
Thank you

'Mayfriday' sorry my poor wording- the students who don't go on these organised treks/experiences abroad/expensive holidays but say they'll do it themselves never end up going. Not the fundraising activities- most of the money I've seen raised has been done through the students own endeavours.

they can do all this later in life when they are much more likely to appreciate it. And they can do it a lot cheaper too if they wait until they don't need the supervision levels that children do.

if the incentive is good works (which I am all for) there's plenty of that needs doing in the UK.

af2000 - but that's the sort of thing I think most posters are saying the students should be doing - getting up and getting on with their own fundraising, not expecting people to give them money.
I'd happily donate some of my clutter to someone who was prepared to work for it like that - that's different from 'sponsorship' though.

Our local school does a similar trip to Peru. The children I know who are involved have done waitressing, baby-sitting, pet-sitting, car washing, chicken feeding (at local farm) and lots of other jobs. They have had around 18 months to raise the money so need to get about 200pm.

Haven't seen any do it with sponsorship as I think, outside their immediate family, they would be struggling to find people willing to stump up.

My DD is in the middle of this. She is working part-time to fund it. Additionally, she has asked for help from close family and god-parents. They have helped with about 1/4 of the cost (that includes me and her Dad). She will raise some of the money through joint fund-raising (bag-packing, busking, baking etc). She has about 18 months to go and the fund-raising effort is very much a part of the trip for her.

She is not asking for sponsorship from strangers!

Is it World Challenge? If so step away from them, they aren't safe in any way, shape or form.

British Exploring do a trip to Peru for a bit cheaper - for the same price your DC could do 5 weeks or could choose 3 weeks for less.

Just a thought! They also give out big bursary's which can be a big help with the fundraising / sponsorship side of things. It can be a huge challenge to raise the money, but if you are able to get hold of larger grants that could be a big chunk of it taken care of
