Model Agencies

To start with let me just say that modelling is not what I would have chosen for my daughter. I would be far happier with her doing some sensible, office job where there would be more security and less pressure to confirm to some type of image of perfection.

However,

she is 18 and wants to choose her own path. She isn't academic and has struggled at school. She managed to achieve GCSEs is English and maths and I am very proud of her as this wasn't easy for her. She has sent her photo and measurements to some modelling companies and been invited to a photo shoot. This company, called Apple Models, say they are not an agency but a platform to launch careers. As far as I can make out they will assess her to see if she has any potential and then help her to create a portfolio (at great cost!) and then she can launch herself into the business. They won't take commission for any work she gets as part of the service will be to create a website for her to find her own work.

I would love to know if this is a legit agency. Does anyone have any experience of them? They do insist on a parent accompanying to the photo shoot, which makes me feel better, but I really want to ensure that she won't be ripped off.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thanks

It sounds very similar to a company that contacted my son. I googled it & discovered that essentially it was a way of you buying expensive photos. There were people (on the internet) who said they had been under pressure to spend more than they intended.

I would be very careful & perhaps contact a modelling agency and ask if it is worth the outlay. Good Luck to your daughter !!

I think the general assumption is that if they ask you for money, then they are not legit - they are just after the money!

They shouldn't be asking for money for portfolios, sounds like a scam. Send her photos off to one of the top agencies, Select, Models1, Premier etc and they will tell you straight away if there is any chance. My dd is 16 and with an agency but it's really difficult fitting in around school at the moment with gcses soon.Negatives are dealing with rejection when you don't get a job and I'm not that comfortable with so much emphasis being placed on purely on what she looks like at this impressionable age. On the plus side she's made a lot of money for herself for a 16 year old!

Scam, legit agencies don't charge. As pp send photos to models 1, select.

Thank you all for the advice. I'll be accompanying her next week to see what they say and making sure no money is handed over. Mymum I'll try the agencies you suggest.
