I have a teen, about to turn 17. When I wanted to get a provisional driving licence I just got a form from the post office. Is that what still happens or is it all electronic now?

Also can someone please explain the written tests and how that all works?

The provisional licence can be applied for online - just make sure you use the gov.uk site.

Applicants can start lessons but have to have passed their theory test before they can apply for their practical test. The theory test is done at various centres and is a computerised test - they know straight away if they have passed or failed. Both theory and practical tests can be booked online.

I recently got a paper application form from the Post Office, and sent it by post. It was back within the week. Don't forget she will need a passport photo as well.

Dunno, ds did it all!

All online though.

As others have said, will need to pass theory test before taking practical.
Once have passed theory test, have to pass practical within 2 years or it expires and you have to start again. Probably makes sense to get plenty of lessons under belt before applying for theory test.
