Teenage girl spreading rumours about me

A girl in my DD's year said, on social media yesterday, that my DD bullied her at junior school. She went on to claim that me & another Mum (of a boy in their year) spread nasty rumours about her, and that's why she changed schools.

This is all complete rubbish. DD wasn't in the same class as her, didn't even know her, and I probably only spoke to the other mum a few times in the years they were at the school. DD hardly said boo to a goose at that age.

DD is really upset, I'm a bit bemused & rather cross at this girl for upsetting DD, & DH wants to go round & ask the girl's parents if they realise that their daughter is saying these things.

How would you approach this?

i would ignore it

Social media meaning facebook? Ignore ignore

PingPongBat · 14/12/2014 23:01

yes, that was my initial reaction - ignore. DH is fuming though!

She probably has form for saying rubbish. Anyone who knows her probably won't believe it. This sort of thing reflects badly on the person who has initiated it. She sounds as if she's troubled. I'd ignore it too.

I definitely wouldn't go round! It might help but it could start something worse. You've no idea how the parents would react. They might just shrug it off a la, "Get over yourselves, girls will be girls - it's just their age". Or they might be furious with their DD and then she might take it out on your DD even more. She's probably jealous of your DD or desperate for attention.

I think it's the latter chocoluvva, & the girl has 'form' for bullying herself.

Having talked to DD today I now realise that it was this girl's mother who had a stand up row with the head of the junior school (no idea what it was about) and took her DCs out of the school soon afterwards. She also had a tendency to lose her children on the walk home (she lived under half a mile from the school) as they were always running off. The mother used to run down the path screaming "where are my children?"! (much to the amusement of other parents who knew her to be a complete nutcase).

Oh dear. Definitely don't go round! Nobody will take this girl seriously.
