I need help and somewhere to talk so I hope this is a good place to find both.
My lovely dd has started to control her eating. She became a vegetarian then a vegan then smaller and smaller meals. She claims to eat lots of snacks, says she isn't hungry then skips meals. She has lost 5kg over the summer and she was already very slim. She is right on the borderline for unhealthy on her bmi. Her periods haven't started.

We have had 2 cahms appointments but she refuses to discuss the problem during the appts. They will discharge her as there is nothing they can do. School are very concerned about her as are her friends.

In the last couple of weeks she has been having terrible violent rages. The last couple of times she has hit me and pulled my hair. This happens when I try to get her to eat more/something.

I don't know what to do next. Please help.

Hi! Just wanted you to know that I've been going through this with my dd for the last 2 years. She is now 16 and has been going to CAMHS for about 18 months.
I would say hang on with CAMHS if you can. I know the service varies greatly from area to area, but they are experienced in dealing with this in young people, so once you have access to that support and understanding, hang onto it. I'm sure they won't discharge her because she won't speak about the food issues, that may take time. You can also ask for your dd to be assessed by a child psychiatrist. This was how we got an official diagnosis of an eating disorder, as her councillor wasn't sure if she was 'just flirting' with her food issues. She has good times and bad (school/exams seems to be a trigger for her), mood swings, struggles low self esteem etc...
I understand how frightening it can be, how alone you feel with it. If you would like to email me please feel free :) not that I'm an expert on this...still feeling my way in the dark with it all to be honest. I have thought about joing a support group, but it's not quite my thing...maybe one day! :D Have you looked at the website B-EAT, which is a charity that supports people/families living with eating disorders? Also Young Minds has useful info on young people and mental health issues, including eating disorders xx
